If it seems like music sensation Carly Rae Jepsen has popped out of nowhere, don’t worry. Until recently her fans were mostly at her home in Canada where 26-year-old Jepsen came third place in Canadian Idol in 2007.
Her latest single Call Me Maybe has changed things, establishing Jepsen as a household name. The music clip alone has received over 44 million views on YouTube. In Australia, the hit has maintained the No.1 position on the ARIA charts for five weeks. It’s also reached top spots in Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and now the U.K.
Justin Bieber used his own superstardom to propel Jepsen into the spotlight, tweeting his thumbs-up to the song earlier this year. Jepsen was signed shortly after to his debut record label, Bieber’s Schoolboy Records, in February this year.
