The 32-year-old father of a newborn remains on life support following a vicious carjacking in Melbourne’s east.

“He’s fighting hard to get back to us.”

Police say the victim was brutally bashed and left for dead by the side of the road by at least two men, who who fled the scene in his 2013 Honda CRV, registration ZRK-896 and one other vehicle.

They have been unable to offer a description of the assailants.

The father suffered head and facial injuries in the attack and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

His wife, 31, told the media she believes the attack was random.

“But the guys who did this they were prepared, they chose the right time because there is no one on the street,” she said, according to The Herald Sun. “God will punish them.”

The couple moved to Australia nine years ago, after meeting in China.

“I see Australia as a safe country but this happened, and it’s happened to me, so really a surprise and I still can’t accept that,” she said.
