The real story behind the guy who broke up with his wife and split all their possessions in half.

Here’s an update we didn’t see coming.

Remember that heartbroken/unhinged German guy who took revenge on his ex-wife Laura by cutting ALL their possessions in half and selling it all on eBay?

Yeah, it turns out there’s more to the story.

In case you’re just catching up, the video showed the man, known as ‘Martin G’, sawing all the items he shared with his ex-wife before they broke up.

Cars, iPhones, bikes. Nothing was exempt.

After it was uploaded, the video was viewed seven MILLION times:

But because we live in the age of viral marketing and nothing in life can be trusted, we now know it was one big advertising stunt.

It was produced by the German Bar Association of lawyers.

They explained on their online portal that the ruse was meant to draw attention to a serious social issue and encourage people to take precautions.

The idea behind it was to humorously point to a problem that is not only relevant in Germany: too few married couples take precautions for the case of a possible separation – for example with a marriage contract.

The event of divorce then often ends in bitter fights under which not only cars and furniture suffer but especially the effected couples and their children.

All is not lost, though – proceeds from the items sold on eBay will go to charity. So that’s something.

And here we were sending Laura virtual high fives…

Here are the items ‘Martin G’ listed on eBay…

The stunt.

You're kidding, it was fake? Seriously did anyone except the author who published this originally actually believe it for was real just because it was on the internet before calling someone a 'creep', 'unhinged' and a 'major douche canoe'

I have heard of a BS meter, perhaps there should be a similar filter for internet stories just for journos' to help them know the difference.

A lot of professional parasites are to blame for a divorce,,,once the PP see there is money to be made they tell the victims not to talk and take out a DVO..last thing the PP want is people talking and sorting things out.
