Bratz dolls get a huge make-under. And damn it suits them.

A Tasmanian artist has given some lucky Bratz dolls a complete make-under.

The artist, who has posted the images to a Tumblr page called Treechange Dolls, described the process on the site:

These dolls have been rescued and rehabilitated from op-shops and tip shops around Tasmania. These lil fashion dolls have opted for a “tree change”, swapping high-maintenance glitz ‘n’ glamour for down-to-earth style. I hand repaint the dolls faces, mold new shoes, and my Mum sews and knits their clothing.

The make-under proves more age-appropriate. Image via Treechange Dolls.

The dolls have been stripped of their iconic heavy makeup, leaving them fresh-faced and simply lovely.

The make-under highlights the hyper-sexualisation of children’s toys, particularly Barbie and Bratz dolls. Barbie’s unrealisitc proportions and the caked-on make-up look that Bratz sport is enough to make many uncomfortable.

The reinvented dolls, however,  have been photographed ‘playing outside like kids should’ (instead of looking like they’re ready for a wild Saturday night). They look so much fresher and realistic.

Barbie doesn’t look like Barbie anymore. She looks like us.

Due to the attention the dolls have been gathering, the artist will soon be launching an Etsy shop. We will be lining up.

The dolls are fantastic, congratulations on your idea! My daughters love Bratz and Barbie, but I know they would love these dolls equally and they certainly do send a better message :)

The before and after photos look like prostitutes who have been rescued and now have a normal life.
