Bob Geldof has spoken about losing his daughter Peaches for this first time.
Appearing on British morning chat show Lorraine, Geldof said that he has found the easiest way to deal with his family’s tragedy is to throw himself into his work and “get on with it”.
The 62-year-old said, “It’s intolerable, it’s very hard, as everybody must realise if it’s happened to them too. What else do you do? You get on with it.”
Geldof went on to speak about dealing with his daughter’s death while living in the public eye.
“The default position for me as a person is: ‘right, things have to be organised’. And that distracts me,” he said. “Like anybody else, these things assault you without warning. You could be talking to someone, you could be walking down the road, and I have got to be very careful because this is still very raw.”
“I’m walking down the road and suddenly, out of the blue, there’s an awareness of her and I buckle. And I’ve got to be very careful because walking down the King’s Road there’s paps everywhere so I have to duck into a lane and blub for a while.”
The Boomtown Rats singer said that although he finds music to be a safe place, he has to be careful for triggers that remind him of Peaches, or her mother, Paula Yates.
“I was writing about a girl I read about in one of the papers, a socialite,” he said. “She went to a posh party and went upstairs and she hanged herself during the party. I think somebody said she was the brightest of diamonds, and I called the song ‘Diamond Smiles’.”
“If I really think about those words it’s too bizarre, it’s too telling, about whether it’s about Paula or – now – what it’s about Peaches.”
Peaches Geldof died at home on April 7. The inquest into her death has revealed that heroin was likely to have been a contributing factor.

He must be a very strong person to survive all he has endured.
My heart goes out to Bob. It's never easy having to lose your own child. I can't even fathom the loss he and his family has to go through. I just pray that Mr. Gedolf, along with Peaches sons, have the strength to move on and live a happy life as Peaches would have wanted.
