Did the Big Brother creators go too far last night?

Big Brother is flirting with being a Big Bully again.

Evicted housemate Katie Schepis (who lasted 23 days in the Channel Nine house, and was the third housemate to be kicked out on Tuesday night) has said that she found parts of the experience to be “a bit mean”.

25-year-old Katie had to choose between speaking to her Dad on the phone and letting down the team. She could have a chat to her beloved Dad, but her housemates would fail their ‘weekly task’ (which means a loss of the food budget = devo).

Because DRAMA.

Apparently Katie was feeling all the emotion in last night’s episode, crying so hard she was shaking (‘fury-sobbing’, we shall call it).

“It was awful. It was extreme. I think it was just as hard on Dad as it was on me. He heard me wailing in the background.”

Big Brother sure likes to torment his captives. At least Katie’s experience wasn’t as HORRIFIC as watching first evictee Gemma Kinghorn struggle through a glorified school-yard bullying game last week.

Jeez, BB. Obviously, all the contestants are there voluntarily. But whatever happened to throwing some people in a house, locking the door, and just watching the sparks fly?

Last year big brother had the housemates be statues, and they couldn't move at all unless they wanted to lose the task, and he actually sent the families IN the house! Imagine having your family right in front of you like that! That is much, much worse than a phone call. These people sign up for the whole deal, they know it will be emotional. And they can also leave at any time! No one is forcing them to stay there!
