Best and Worst: Come and tell us about your week

Hi everyone – happy Best and Worst day!

For new readers, you probably know this day of the week as ‘Friday’, but here in Mamamialand it’s synonymous with Best and Worst – the online equivalent of catching up with several thousand friends at a cafe to debrief on the week that was. Only you don’t have to leave the house, or deal with snobby baristas who turn up their nose when you dare speak the word “cappuccino”. I’ll kick us off.

Best

Oh, you know – being part of the launch of a brand new website was moderately exciting, I guess…

In case you missed Open Post on Wednesday, Mamamia welcomed a new digital baby this week: our very pretty, very savvy health and beauty site, .

Having never been a parent (digital or physical) before, I wasn’t prepared for just how exhilarating this process would be. Alyx, Nicky and I are incredibly proud of the site and the awesome content spilling out of it.

A couple of times this week I’ve looked over at Alyx and she’s been staring at our homepage with the kind of love and awe you usually see in a besotted mum’s eyes. And, like any good parents, we’ve been showing off our new baby on social media at every opportunity (we’re on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so if you’d be so kind…).

Just this week The Glow has covered everything from fine hair problems to pasta substitutes (don’t worry, we road-tested them so you don’t have to) to getting the fringe of your dreams without leaving the salon in tears (a topic very close to my heart – well, my forehead). There’s something for everyone, so we’d love it if you’d come on over and say hi!

Next Best (because I am being greedy)

The Australian production of Les Miserables kicked off in Melbourne last night. This is a ‘best’ for me because one of my dearest, most talented friends, Rob, is in the cast and it’s his musical theatre debut. He’s in this video doing some impressive slow-motion marching to the barricades – I’ve watched it about 107 times already:

Worst:

One downside of working on a health-focused website is being exposed to a lot of eye-opening and, well, frankly terrifying health research (and the corresponding Google Image searches). For instance, yesterday I learned my nervous nail-biting habit could be bending my teeth out of alignment, and putting me at risk of things like wart virus HPV, which is exactly as revolting as it sounds. And with that, I will never feast on my nails again.

Over to you. What have been the best and worst parts of your week?

Best: holiday to Croatia is getting very close now, 3 months..
worst: my fiancè forgot our 5 year anniversary. Not just forgot to get me something but completely forgot. I reminded him a few times last week but he just.. forgot.. I'm so disappointed

People do that sometimes. My husband has forgotten our anniversary (I have once too) and mother's day before. On the other hand he works hard to provide a good living for us, he is considerate in every other way and is a good father to our children and his stepchildren. Is your fiancé generally a good man? If he is, it's worth hoping that this will be a one off.

My husband and I both forgot our anniversary one year. And, it was only our second! It was only as I was writing out a cheque at about 10am that I noticed the date. *oops*

It's understandable you'd be disappointed. I would too! It's obviously a big deal for you. Did you express your disappointment and how did he react?

Best: On holidays! Finished my five weeks of prac and it went really well so super happy about that. I've only got 5 weeks of classes and 9 weeks of prac to go and then I'm done! It's so close now.

Worst: My skin. I got my Implanon taken out a few months ago and went on the pill to try and clear up my skin. It's been 4 months and it still looks like shit. I know it's a massive first world problem but I'm feeling very self conscious about it at the moment. I'm too bloody old for this.

Have you been to a dermatologist?? My sister had great success with changing her diet to clear up her skin. The biggest thing for her was cutting out sugar, deep fried and processed foods and eating loads of vegetables, good fats and probiotics like yoghurt, fermented veggies etc. Not sure if this is something you've tried or not but just thought I'd mention it.

I have done the 3 day skin detox in the book "Detox" by Penelope Sach.
It works well for me. I always get results.

Unfortunately I can't afford to see a dermatologist at the moment. My diet has been pretty poor lately so I might try cutting out certain things and see if it helps!
