BREAKING: Bali Nine pair given precious extra days with families.

The future of convicted Bali Nine drug smugglers remains unclear as their transfer is postponed.

Plans to transfer Bali Nine du0 Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran to an island prison, in preparation for their executions have been delayed until at least next week, ABC News reports.

Indonesian officials have blamed the delay in part on a shortage of death row isolation cells at Nusa Kambangan island prison off Java, where they had been planning to send the pair as early as tomorrow morning.

Indonesian attorney general Muhammad Prasetyo told the ABC that keeping the pair in Bali’s Kerobokan would also allow them to spend more time with their families.

“It’s an attempt to respond to requests made by various parties, including the government of Australia,” he said.

“So the families have more time to see them.”

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi addressed the media in Jakarta this evening, saying the drug situation in Indonesia is “dire” and that is why they have chosen to enforce the laws so strongly.
Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi says that drug trafficking in the country is “dire”.

“I emphasis the emergency that Indonesia is facing with drugs trafficking,” she said.

She commented on the wide media coverage the death sentence had received in Australia, saying the government had taken note of the representation made at all levels.“This issue is purely a law enforcement issue,” she said. “Law enforcement against extra-ordinary crime. Law enforcement by a sovereign country.”

I'll admit I have changed my tune on this. I first though, they knew what they were doing and they knew the consequences. But hearing more of the story has made me think, and I don't think they should be killed. They have been in jail for 10 years, they have been punished. Killing them will achieve nothing except cause grief and pain for their families. The death pentaly is a cruel and outdated punishment, we condem ISIS for what they do yet somehow it is justified elsewhere.

If the Indonesian politicians are so confident that the death penalty is a fair and just system to deter drug traffickers- (not drug lords mind you)....then why do they take the prisoners to a secret island where it can't be filmed? why have they developed an elaborate method to protect the executioner from knowing who "pulled the trigger"? Why don't they display the executions for everyone to see like Isis do?

I can tell you why, because the death penalty is a shameful and barbaric mode of punishment and is an absolute disgrace to ANY sovereign nation that upholds it. If they were to display the executions, no just citizen would agree with it.
