This mother hated the gifts she received at her baby shower. So she asked for better presents.

We’re filing this one under ‘crazy baby shower letters that are going seriously viral’ (and yes, you could pretty much devote an entire filing cabinet to this subject).

A reader of the US parenting website Mommyish, recently forwarded a letter that she’d received after not being able to attend their baby shower.

The woman who sent in the letter barely knew the couple (although she had some mutual friends in common with the woman), and didn’t think it would be a big deal that she wasn’t able to attend.

As it turned out, it was a big deal. BIG. DEAL.

What makes this a ‘crazy baby shower letter’ story, and not your ‘run-of-the-mill baby shower letter’ story, is that the letter came in the form of a poem.

We’re sorry you missed the shower!

There was fun and games to be had

The food and drinks not too bad

The loot was a plenty

But we looked high and low and found none from you

Not even a shiny penny!

Babies need a lot

Of this fact we all know

So we’ve included some shops below!

If none are to your liking, and that we understand

Then grab a pen and get to writing

For checks are to our liking!

The *** Family is registered at these stores and checks can be mailed to this address.

Okay. Wow.

But it gets better.

Here’s another poem, which the couple allegedly sent to another guest who did give them a gift – but one that wasn’t up to scratch.

We loved seeing you at the shower

Remember how the gifts they did tower?

We sorted them for hours

Upon sifting and sorting we noticed something amiss

For your gift didn’t match the list

To fix your situation we listed our stores below

But a check could also help us flow!

Sending friends and acquaintances a letter like this – after they have taken the time to come celebrate the impending birth of your child, and spent money on a gift that they think you might need – is incredibly rude.

But all of these criticisms are ignoring what is clearly the most problematic aspect of these letters…

The poems are not great.

If you’re going to get passive-aggressive using verse, at least make sure you can write a witty sonnet like Shakespeare.

Have you ever attended a baby shower with strict conditions of attendance? If you’ve had your own baby shower, did you receive any gifts that were a bit lacklustre?

Aaaaand they should get something back like this:

We received your rude letter,
the sentiment couldn't have hit us better,
we hope you won't mind,
and it won't put you in a bind,
please return our present, you beggar.

Just because you opened your legs,
doesn't give you a right to beg.
