Childbirth is one of the most physically painful things for a woman.
In Australia, the average weight of a newborn baby is seven pounds, six ounces. That’s 3.3 kilos.
So you can imagine our faces when we heard that a Perth mother has just given birth to a baby boy weighing nearly double the average size.
First-time mum Breanna Sykes, 18, has just given birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing in at 13 pounds 2 ounces. Or 5.9 kilos.
"It was a very big surprise," Sykes, who is from Carramar, Western Australia, told PerthNow.
"The doctor would not induce me (at first) but then measured me on the table and said he thought my baby would be about eight or nine pounds."
Boy, was he wrong. For those of you scrunching up your faces in pain, you'll be happy to know Ziad Kadic was delivered by (an unplanned) caesarean section. He was also six centimetres longer than the average newborn.

"My waters broke, and I was fully dilated, but the pain was too much," Sykes said. “I was having an anxiety attack so they had to put me under anesthetic. When I woke up they told me I had a 13.2 pound [5.9kg] baby.”
Little Ziad became something of a spectacle for the doctors at Joondalup Health Campus after his arrival.
"I have had 15 doctors come visit me when they found out how big he was,” Sykes told PerthNow. “Most have said he was the biggest newborn they have ever seen.
“One of the doctors said to me he’s the biggest baby he has seen in his 15 years as a doctor."

My 3rd son was 5.22kgs and he was an absolute whopper, massive head too (even relative to his weight), as did all of my babies, the smallest of whom was 4.5kgs. All C-sections obviously because I am sensible.
