The biggest baby naming trends we'll see in 2018 have been announced.

We’ve tried everything to make 2017 feel like less of a disaster of a year. So much so, that parents-to-be will reportedly be opting for more “virtuous” and “positive” names for their babies, in an attempt to will something good out of next year and salvage what’s left of humanity.

It seems like a large task at hand, but… what have we got to lose?

More than a quarter of mums surveyed by UK parenting Website Channel Mum expressed their desire to name their children optimistic names like “Hope”, “Faith”, “Felicity”, and “Saint”, mirroring their apparent faith in the world that things can only get better from here on out… hopefully.

As for “Saint”, we’re pretty sure we have Kim Kardashian’s influence to thank for that one.

Other 2018 baby name trends include…

Bird-inspired names.

Wren

Phoenix

Paloma

Birdie

So what about the names that have been predicted to decrease in popularity in 2018?

Among other worn out names like Maisy, Kia, Olivia, Oliver, Alfie, Amelia, Isla, Jack, Arlo, and Lily, you guessed it… we’ll be saying goodbye to the name “Donald” next year.

And on that pleasing note, we warmly welcome the predicted 2018 baby name trends and the oh-so virtuous year to come!

How cruel can you be by including something like Ophelia, do you not know how truly awful children can be, especially to those parents think that this will make their kid stand out in the crowd? I went to a primary school where a kid was called Ophelia her parents thinking that they would show off their flare, (keep in mind this was the 70's) this smart kid went up to the headmistress on enrolment day, just as her Mother went to open her mouth to say her truly hideous name she snuck in her middle name which if I remember rightly was either Jane or something fairly innocuous as it didn't stand out, & that was what she was known as at school for the rest of her time in primary.
Though the teacher's knew better, they didn't question it as they knew that this kid would never survive if she hadn't done this.
Parents, it may be all well and good to call your child some artsy clever name, but their the ones that have to put up with the smartass remarks & the taunting & teasing, & don't delude yourself into believing that these precious little snowflakes your bringing up don't behave badly towards other kids when they've got a moniker that they feel is ridiculous or downright nonsense, it's alright for you, your at work all day, or at home their the ones that have to live with it.

The one thing I absolutely hate is people giving surnames as first names; ie Jackson, Madison, McKenzie and I've even recently read of an Emerson. What is it that makes an otherwise rational human being give a child a last name in place of a first name? Especially with girls, there are so many feminine, pretty and beautiful girl names, so what makes one name their little girl McKenzie??? Or Kennedy? Seriously, can this 'thing' with giving children surnames as first names please die a quick death? It is repulsive.
