1. The body of an 11-month-old boy has been discovered in a car outside a daycare centre in Perth. The cause of the boy’s death is unknown.
Police are interviewing the boy’s father, who apparently came to the daycare to collect the boy at 4pm yesterday and was shocked to find him not there.
When daycare staff said that the boy had never been dropped off, he rushed back to the car to find the baby in the capsule in the backseat.
2. American author Tom Clancy has died at the age of 66. Clancy, who is the author of The Hunt for Red October, Red Storm Rising and Patriot Games, died in his home town of Baltimore.
3. There’s finally been a ruling in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial. The jury of six men and six women found that concert promoter AEG were not liable for the pop singer’s death.
AEG were the company who hired Dr. Conrad Murray who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he administered an lethal amount of the drug anesthetic propofol to Mr Jackson.
Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.
4. Schapelle Corby has come one step closer to freedom, after gaining parole approval from the Justice Ministry Office in Bali. A spokesman from the office yesterday confirmed that her parole application would be forwarded to the capital, Jakarta, for further consideration.
“Our consideration is that Corby has fulfilled a substantive requirement, which is she has served two-thirds of her sentence and behaved well,” the office said.
5. Indonesian journalists are claiming that Prime Minister Tony Abbott committed a criminal offence by excluding them from a press conference on Tuesday morning.
Apparently they’re claiming discrimination after the PM only allowed Aussie journalists to attend his press conference, despite the fact that it was his first official visit.
Local newspaper Rakyat Merdeka said: “What’s the use for him coming all the way to Indonesia if he only gives a press conference to Australian journalists?”
6. US President Barack Obama has expressed his frustration at the government shutdown. President Obama is hoping congress ends the shut down and that the Republicans and the Democrats come to an agreement on funding soon. “Absolutely I am exasperated, because this is entirely unnecessary” Obama told CNBC. He also tweeted:

I know I have gone about my day and then suddenly felt strange that the kids weren't with me and then doing a stock take of where I had taken them that day (school/play date) and thought "phew"! So I can imagine the reverse. You go about your day and maybe he and the baby's mother took their baby to the daycare centre in a random order rather than routine and they both thought the other parent was taking their child. And so they went about their day and didn't realise until pick up! I find myself saying "What if" so I can only imagine what they are going through.
This is absolutely devastating, heart breaking, awful. The pain this father must be in :-(
I remember the Oprah episode about similar stories and it shocked me into being obsessive about checking and rechecking the car.
