Open Post: It's the first long weekend of the year and I've got big plans.

For those of you that haven’t visited our Open Post page before, WELCOME.  This is a place for you to tell us about what is going on in your world. Tell us about your highs, your lows or just what’s on your mind.

I’ll start.

I am amazed at how fast this year is going. It’s like I have whiplash at the end of each week. This feeling is not helped by the presence of hot cross buns in the shops. Talking with the Mamamia team, I know I am not alone.

Most of us are back in “normal” routines. The traffic has returned to normal. Work is back, school is starting to go back and Christmas is but a distant memory. But, before another twelve months flies by, we have the gift of a long weekend in January. Thank you Australia Day.

I am looking forward to dinner with friends on Friday.  A morning of coffees on Saturday with some wonderful women I know.

Saturday afternoon means catching up on those pesky chores I didn’t get time for during the week and Sunday is Symphony in the Domain to mark the end of the Sydney Festival. Something I fail at for another year – I didn’t see a thing.

Got plans for the weekend?

Then the glorious gift that is a Monday public holiday. Which for me this year, means an opportunity to catch up with my family. The eldest of my brother’s three children, my niece is born on the 27th of January and I get to hang out with her.

She starts high school this year and I am so excited for her. I remember my first year of high school and how excited/nervous I was. I am pretty sure she is going to be just fine but I can’t wait to have a chat to her and make sure she is ready.

Yep it’s shaping up to be an awesome weekend. I can’t wait to sit down and really chat with my friends and family about how the year is shaping up.

Now it’s over to you? What do you have planned for the weekend? And what else is going on in your world?
