She's been called the 'World's Ugliest Woman'. But she's probably one of the most beautiful.

She’s been called the ‘World’s Ugliest Woman’.

25-year-old Lizzie Velasquez has an extremely rare, unnamed syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight, and she is also blind in one eye.

Only two other people in the world have her condition, but she became by far the most prolific of three when she posted a YouTube video of herself online when she was 17. The video went viral, and trolls gave her the nickname World’s Ugliest Woman.

Since then, however, Lizzie has become a motivational speaker, gave a TED talk that has been viewed almost nine million times, and written three- self-help books.

Now, she has a new mission.

Lizzie wants to make a film – currently titled The Lizzie Project – about overcoming bullying, and what it’s like to come out the other side. Lizzie created a Kickstarter to fund the campaign – which reached its goal of $180,000 with plenty of time to spare – because she wants to make the Internet a better place than she found it. “Or, a better place than it found me,” she clarifies.

Lizzie says she wants to create the film because, “I know what it is to be bullied and what is to be bullied online, and I want to be the protector of those who think it won’t get better.”

It’s that kind of beautiful attitude, that proves the ugliness here is in the bullies themselves. If you’d like to find out more about Lizzie’s most recent project, you can click here. Or if you would like to hear more from the woman herself, here’s the TED talk that has been viewed almost 9 million times:

How do you think we can combat online bullying?
