Hero, Shocker and Whinger of the Week.

Welcome to Hero, Shocker and Whinger of the Week.

Where we bring you: Someone awesome, someone shocking and someone who called the Waaahmbulance.

Let’s begin.

Hero(es) of the Week goes to…

The local newsreaders who agreed to indulge Jimmy Fallon by reading out fake good news.

It’s been a pretty bad/sad/not glad news week. But Jimmy Fallon decided to change that, by giving some American local news readers some happy stories to read out.

Shocker of the Week goes to…

Texas’ decision to strike out a law designed to stop people from taking pictures up women’s skirts.

If there’s one liberty you can rely on Texas to uphold, it’s the first amendment. And they did just that this week when the Texas Court of Appeals ruled 8-1 that a law banning “improper photography” (the taking of photos or videos of another person without their consent and with the intent to “arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person”) was contrary to the American constitutional right to freedom of speech.

In her judgment, Judge Sharon Keller said the laws promoted a “paternalistic interest in regulating the defendant’s mind”.

Whinger of the Week goes to…

The man who called 911 three times because he was lonely and wanted someone to talk to.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a Pennsylvania man was jailed on Wednesday on charges of making false reports to the authorities. The man told paramedics various stories each time he called over a four hour period, including that he fell down the stairs and injured his neck.
