In a story that sounds very much like a plot of a Hollywood blockbuster set in Las Vegas, a British divorcee and an American woman have met in a hotel bar, got drunk, fallen in love and married. Within 17 hours of meeting. As you do.
Alex Gabrielson and Nick Bond met over a spilled drink and then chatted for a couple of hours before deciding that they should be life long partners and get married. According to the Daily Mail:
Mr Bond arrived in Las Vegas at 11pm on April 15. An hour later he met his soon-to-be wife in the Mirage Hotel bar and there was ‘an instant attraction’.
After dancing and kissing they went with two friends to a local diner for a 3am fry up. Suddenly Mr Bond told her, ‘I think I love you’, and she replied, ‘I think I love you too.’
After a few hours sleep they still wanted to marry. Mr Bond bought the ring from the hotel boutique. They exchanged their vows at a ceremony at 5pm that day.
Mrs Bond remains delighted she went ahead with the marriage, saying it was the ‘most insane and best decision’ she had ever made.
Mr Bond’s parents are less impressed. His mother Lynda, 60, still doesn’t believe her son, while his father Peter, 63, described him as a ‘plonker’.
A plonker? Not a bad description of your son after he has gone on holidays with his mates and come home with a wedding certificate and a bride waiting his return. One wonders what kind of adjectives Nick’s girlfriend back home used to describe him, after she had recovered from the shock of reading reports of the wedding of course. Laura Paton, 23, was shocked to read reports of Nick Bond’s quickie wedding to Alex Gabrielson after they met in a Las Vegas bar.
Furious Ms Paton said in The Sun, as her love rival prepares to fly to the UK: ‘She should save the airfare. He can’t be trusted.
Nick is now back home in Surrey, his wife in Minnesota where he plans to join her soon. Their only remaining hurdle is to tell her family…. That should be a cinch

I was 17 when I met the man I would marry. I knew immediately that I would. It took him a while longer and we didn't marry straight away (about a yr later) but the marriage lasted nearly 30 years. So it's possible that couple will last as well :)
This is all very interesting! I met a man a month ago and knew within half an hour that he was The One. My friends think I'm crazy, random internet thread contributors think I'm crazy, even I think I'm crazy. And I'm usually a cynical and practical person who has always believed in living together and having the children/finances/life decisions talks for ever before getting married....but, I just know! So at the moment, I am all giddy and lovestruck and if he asked me right now I would say yes. Mind you, I am just as happy to give it a few months just to be on the safe side :)
