There's a "granny ripper" who ate her victims (but did not live in gingerbread house).

It’s like something out of Grimm’s fairy tales…

A Russian pensioner – who has been dubbed “Grannibal Lecter” and the “Granny Ripper” by the media – has been arrested in relation to 13 murders and is being investigated for cannibalism.

Tamara Samsonova, 68, was arrested in July after CCTV footage reportedly showed her carrying the body of a 79-year-old woman in a plastic bag as she attempted to dispose of the corpse. Three days later, a torso missing one leg and one arm was discovered.

Following Samsonova’s arrest, it is alleged that police found a diary in her apartment detailing 11 other gruesome murders she is believed to have committed over the past two decades.

The Independent reports that one diary entry reads: “I killed my tenant Volodya, cut him to pieces in the bathroom with a knife and put the pieces of his body in plastic bags and threw them away in the different parts of Frunzensky district.”

In addition to the 13 murders, it is believed that Samsonova may have eaten the body parts of some of her victims, with a police source telling the Daily Mail that the police were not ruling out cannibalism, saying “it is not excluded.”

During a hearing, it was reported that Samsonova told judge Roman Cheboatoryov that she has been waiting to be arrested.

“I was getting ready for this court action for dozens of years. It was all done deliberately… There is no way to live. With this last murder I closed the chapter.”

After the judge asked her what she thought of the accusations against her, she added, “You decide, your honour. After all, I am guilty and I deserve a punishment.”

In 2005, Samsonova reported her husband missing, but he was never found. She is now being investigated in relation to his death.

Samsonova has been remanded in custody.
