Germany’s coalition government has announced plans to outlaw bestiality (the practice of humans having sex with animals).
Yes, that does mean that you can currently have sex with an animal in Germany. An EU country. In 2012.

Bestiality ceased being a criminal offence in Germany in 1969. There are some restrictions: Although the actual act of having sex with animals is not illegal, Germany bans the use of animals for the creation of pornography and there are restrictions on bestiality when “significant harm” is inflicted on the animal.
The renewed debate over a ban is in response to a growth in animal ‘pimping’, where animals are farmed and sold for the purpose of zoophilia. There have also been reports of ‘erotic zoos’, which turn zoophilia into a lucrative tourism opportunity for Germany, one of the few countries where the practice is still permitted.
The proposed changes to the law will shift the focus from determining whether harm was inflicted to forcing animals to engage in “actions alien to the species.”

Pro-zoophilia campaign group ZETA (Zoophiles Commitment to Tolerance and Enlightenment) says it will legally challenge the ban.
Zeta Chairman Michael Kiok, who lives with his dog Cessy, estimates the number of zoophiles in Germany to be at 100,000, and insists he does not engage in any activities which harm animals.
He told Taz.de: “Sex is not just penetration. You can masturbate the animal, lick his hand or lick or leave.
“Animals are much easier to understand that, say women.”

The exploitation of other animals by human animals has always been confusing, depressive and ugly.
As a vegetarian I came to the conclusion decades ago that for me anyway – eating other animals was “not on”………..the treatment of other animals in the food industries is not “okay” ………no matter how kindly farmers deal with the animals in their care – those animals are killed for commerce.
Imagine an Alien landing on our planet and trying to figure out our relationship with other animals.
Some animals we lavish with food & praise & shelter….we appear to genuinely love them.
Some animals we group together in large paddocks, water & feed them and before they live out their natural life span, we herd into over-crowded trucks and cart their terrified beings off to slaughter-houses where they’re killed and butchered for their bodies & skins & other body parts – this is mainly for food even though the protein their meat provides is also available from other sources in our wealthier societies.
We also slaughter birds & sea creatures for food although some of us actually risk our lives to prevent the slaughter of whales (for eg) when other humans claim they’re required for “scientific purposes”.
In some islands near Norway the aliens could witness (if they could bear it) the vicious, bloody slaughter (by the inhabitants) of Pilot whales lured to their deaths in shallow water. Called a “tradition” by these human animals the sea runs red with blood as these gentle creatures are hacked to death in front of human children………this is also supposed to be for food even though those humans don’t appear to be starving and who clearly enjoy this carnage way too much.
In fact, around the world this horrible spectacle is repeated again & again and yet, when some other humans try to get in the way to stop it – their safety is threatened.
Then of course we have the world’s “trouble spots” – where disgraceful violence & murder is carried out amongst children all for the acquisition of real estate and “honour”.
Then there are the disputes over who’s God is more “real & important”.
What would an alien make of the way human animals treat not just other animals – but each other ?
