Welcome to another sponsored post brought to you by Smirnoff Cocktails. We are still in party mode but this time MM correspondent Linda wants in on your tricks and tips for getting ready for a big night out. Or in. She writes
Not long ago we sought your advice as to how to throw the perfect dinner party – we were bowled over with your brilliant suggestions and so now, armed with my grocery list and my iTunes wishlist , I am in the final throes of organising my dinner /cocktail party.
The party is going to be held at my home but I have every intention of dressing up like I am going out for the night. After all, getting ready for a big night out is half the fun – even if the big night is actually “in”. It’s not just selecting the outfit and putting it on, it is the ancillaries – the nails, the hair, the fake tan, shopping for the right shoes, the earrings that work with the dress. The whole deal.
Because getting ready is a large part of my fun, I often make it part of the night. Nothing better than having girlfriends around and getting ready together before a night out – and sipping on a few cocktails while applying the make up has made for some hilarious evenings, not to mention the fact that I have been inspired and encouraged by my friends to try some new looks. So before this dinner party I am going to call my friends and ask them to meet me for a Smirnoff Cocktail or two while we exchange beauty products and ideas , discuss the dresses and get our nails buffed and our legs tanned.
We will be chatting and drinking from Smirnoff’s new cocktail range which includes
- Vodka Mojito A perfectly balanced blend of crisp clean Smirnoff Vodka, Kaffir Lime Liquor and natural mint flavour;
- Grand Cosmopolitan A professional shake of crisp clean Smirnoff Vodka, Triple Sec Liquor and a splash of Cranberry juice; or the
- Pomegranate Martini A delicious blend of Smirnoff Vodka, pomegranate juice, Meyer Lemon Flavoured Liqueur, and natural lemon flavour.
What are your tips for getting ready? What are the things you do to prepare for a night out to make you feel good about yourself? .
And of course remember to always drink responsibly.

Mia, i supported your 'Femail' column in the West Weekend Magazine (Sat 2 Oct 2010) taking a stance against girls smoking, even if it was for reasons of vanity and not necessarily health.
Now you accept sponsorship money from Smirnoff, producers of a range of youth-friendly sugary vodka drinks and new alcopop casks. Blatant targeting of young girls. Binge-drinking is rife among young people, as is the associated harms including falls, road crashes, sexual risk, violence, developmental impairment and long term risks of disease and cancer.
Please explain your support for a company which contributes to these big problems?!?
Kinda see where you're coming from, but I wouldn't really agree that smirnoff targets underagers. If it was cruiser or UDL I'd agree, but I'm now 23 my friends and I are only just getting into smirnoff. The casks are great, but they're certainly not lollie sweet drinks. When I was underage and the underagers I know get more into the cheap wine than anything else
Hey Julia,
That's a pretty big question - valid - but big. I guess I see it like this....
Unlike tobacco, alcohol can be consumed in responsible, safe quantities. That's how I drink alcohol. And I would guess/hope that the majority of MM readers would be the same.
Binge-drinking exists, yes sure. And terrible things do happen when people binge drink.
But I don't think that's a reason to ban all alcohol advertising. I respect your right to disagree though.
Every binge drinker starts their career as a responsible, social drinker.
1. Do spend all day emailing/texting your girlfriends and have the excitement of the night ahead brewing before the working day is out. It's friday afterall and your Boss loves you spending work time on personal things.
2. On the way home zip into the grocers for limes, sparkling water, cheeses, english muffins and eggs. You know for that midnight snack you will need when you stumble home.
3. Shower for a good eight minutes with that Chanel body wash you have been saving all year, tonight is the night to use that badboy.
4. Layer the bronzer on like it is going out of fashion, you will look 5kgs lighter and should stop cursing yourself for skipping the gym two maybe three times this week, this is the money trick!
5. Slap your face on dont forget everything you have learned on Primped, actually get out your iphone and read up again on winged eyeliner!
6. Make a lime sparkling vodka cocktail while twirling around the kitchen to Justin and eat some cheese, one wheel of camembert is a well rounded dinner ;)
7. Find that little black dress in the far back of the closet and slink into it, dont forget your Bridget knickers they will make you look a million dollars.
8. Now find those ridiculously expensive heels, the ones if your sisters knew they cost a mortgage repayment they would kill you, yep those ones, slip them on and catwalk up the hall, yeah they hurt like hell but for the love of god they are amazing.
9. Make one more cocktail for the road and wait for a text from the hirecar to say they are on approach.
10. Devour said cocktail, grab the clutch/keys/iphone and go!go!go! avoid looking in the hideous mirror of truth in the lift and say this three times: When in Rome!
Cheers x
this is awesome!! i read down and was nodding my head the entire time haha
