A few weeks ago when I was shopping I saw this mum and dad shopping with their three young kids. The kids were not being naughty but they were keeping their parents busy and mum looked a bit frazzled. So when I got near the checkout I grabbed a box of chocolates, paid for my groceries and then handed the mum the chocolates and said ” you are doing an amazing job, here’s something just for you to enjoy”. Her smile made me so happy.

I was going for a run the other week and I passed an elderly man who was blind, walking on a suburban back road. I had just seen an ad about offering to accompany blind people near roads so I turned around and walked with him to the bus stop. He seemed relieved to have someone help check no cars were coming when we crossed each road. I’m so glad I turned back, I think it made both our days.

Not really random because they are people I know but I baked a heap of finger buns today and took them along to kinder pick-up and shared them with the other mums.
We all had a lovely afternoon tea in the sunshine while we waited for the kids to finish. I also put 2 in a bag for the teachers to enjoy after class.
It made me happy

Thanks for the inspiration. I stapled $5 inside an envelope to a copy of MX and left it at Central.

My husband and I recently stopped overnight in Hong Kong on our way to the UK. When we arrived late at night we couldn’t get any of the ATMs to work so we could get HK cash for a taxi to our hotel as taxis would not take visa. We were getting quite worried when an Aussie expat asked what was wrong. He then insisted we take the HK equivalent of $50 to get us out of trouble. When we returned home we sent him a thank you letter and cheque but he hasn’t cashed it! What a nice man, hope one day we can help a visitor who is having difficulties.

I ADORE these random acts of kindness posts! I try and do RAOK all the time, they are really very simple and make such a difference to my life!

Last year when I was working, and therefore had money, I was shopping at my local Aldi and saw a woman putting some items back after realising she couldn’t afford them. After paying for my own groceries I grabbed the items and bought them for her and took them out. She was grateful as were the kids.
Not necessarily a random act of kindness, but a similar feeling happened this weekend. I had my 40th birthday this weekend and my wife had arranged for a friend, whom I hadn’t seen in a while, to come. I don’t know how she was able to keep it a secret for 2 weeks.

That happened to a woman in front of me at the supermarket a year or so ago. They were deducting items from the total because she didn’t have enough to pay.
I really wanted to offer to pay but I didn’t. I was afraid it would add to her obvious embarrassment. I should have.

Did anyone watch “Airways” the show about Tiger Airlines on Channel 7? The other day, a lady was being charged a fee at the airport by Tiger for not checking in on line. She was crying and didn’t have any money or a credit card. Another lady came over with the $50 she needed. Made me cry, what a softie!!

This made me cry (such a softie!)
I was in Eastern Europe recently, in a country where my parents are from and in which the economy is pretty terrible. Most people live on about $250 a month and living expenses are not that much lower than in Australia.
My boyfriend and I stayed in a hotel in the centre of the city, where a young man would busk everyday from morning till night, singing love songs. We had a chat to him one day and he told us he’d only earned about $1.50 busking that WHOLE day in 40 degree heat. The next morning we walked past and dropped $20 into his little container. When we turned around we saw him smiling and packing up to leave for the rest of the day! That night we saw him taking a walk with his wife, both enjoying a gelato

A year ago while i was Xmas shopping at Fountain Gate i got out of my car and noticed the car next to me had their car keys still in the door – i peeked into the car and noticed that they had a baby capsule and new child registration forms, so the driver was very obviously a new parent and probably very frazzled!
I took the car keys and left a note telling the person they had left their keys in the door, and i had handed them in to centre management (i also left my name and mobile just in case)…
I took the keys to centre management with the number plate and description of the car and explained what happened…
They put an annoucement out….
AN hour or so later i got a beautiful text from the person who was so thankful! It made me feel really good

Last week I found a cars log books and ownership papers strewn around a park. I collected them all put them in their folder and sent them to the service centre where the car was serviced. I would have sent to the owner but there were no details. The service centre called and thanked me.
I had my stolen and know how annoying it is so wanted this owner to have them back

Not really random because he’s my husband, but our son was born in winter. When I’d get up to do the night feeds, he’d roll onto my side of the bed and stay there until I got back, so it would be warm for me

That is gorgeous!

I’m kind of a serial letterbox dropper of notes. I’ve dropped notes into letterboxes to say how much I enjoy their beautiful garden when I walk past. Or how much I like the choice of colour they’ve used on their home.
Someone in the street adjacent to mine recently sold their house which has been on the market for 14 months. When I drove past and saw the “Sold” sign, I was so delighted for them…and my daughter who was in the car with me said, “We should drop a congratulations note into their letterbox!!”

I love the idea of congratulating someone on their garden, I often enjoy looking at other people’s gardens but would never have thought to leave them a note. I might try it tomorrow.

I love the dry-cleaner’s one and the ‘take a smile’. I saw an elderly lady struggling to check her tyres, and she looked at me (I was waiting to check my tyres), so I just asked if she wanted me to do them for her. She was so grateful and I felt so happy after that.

Once a month on a Thursday ( as it is pension day) , I go to Coles and get one item, then find a checkout where there is an elderly person buying their groceries, and standing in line, and ask if I can go first because I only have one thing. 99% of the time they let me, I then leave $50 with the checkout attendant to pay for their groceries. I can afford it now, but I know what it’s like, and how hard it is, to live on a limited income.

What a lovely idea, I’m going to do that

This is such a wonderful thing to do!

I once bought an elderly lady at the supermarket a big box of tea bags. She was telling the cashier that she has to use her tea bags twice due to the cost and get second cup was also weak and awful but all she could afford. Made me so sad, especially as I could treat myself to a coffee daily. The woman could not believe it and insisted I take them back and save for my child (was pregnant at the time). I convinced her it was ok and was quite delighted in the end.
