Do You Like This Story?

As the remnants of the TomKat break up are scraped off the carpet, we thought it was about time we all took a quick breather.

So, we invite you to join us at a time and place, that was happier, sweeter and more… wholesome. That place is Dawson’s Creek.

Dawson and his gang galloped onto our screens in 1998. (Remember 1998? Tencel jeans, bandanas, snap pants, rubber bracelets? Those were the days…)

Together, we struggled through the nail biting moments of Jen’s teenage pregnancy, swooned at Pacey’s oh-so-funny jokes, and chucked stuff at the TV as Joey Potter yet again rowed across a freaking lake in the freezing cold and climbed rickety ladders just to see that daggy Dawson fella.

Some of our favourite Dawson’s Creek moments [post continues below gallery]:

Pacey, Joey, Dawson and Jen

And when the times get tough – it’s nice to remember those moments. In fact, Katie Holmes herself could learn a lot from the eternally optimistic, albeit slightly naive Joey Potter.

The fine folk over at Refinery29 have done their homework and re-watched the series and selected some choice quotes. As they point out – Tom Cruise ain’t no Pacey Witter – but we agree that some of these lines could (and perhaps should) be uttered by Katie right now.

Joey: “So what? If I want to be with you, I’m supposed to just throw all of my previous life experience out the window? I’m supposed to just stop being who I am?”
Season Six, Episode 23

Joey: “Imagine that, Pacey. We actually have something in common… Providing gossip for the small-minded townsfolk. And unfortunately for you, you’re tonight’s top story.”
Season One, Episode Six

Joey: “For so long, all I’ve thought about was you, all I dreamed about was you…”
Dawson: “What happened?”
Joey: “I got my dream, and now I don’t have anything else.”
Season Two, Episode Six

Dawson: “Here I am. Single, sandwiched in between two women who both dumped me. I am pathetic.”
Jen: “Hey, look at me, I’m dating a bible thumping hypocrite, okay?”
Joey: “Hey…my boyfriend may be gay.”
Season Two, Episode 15

Joey: “Why do I feel like I fell asleep on the train and woke up the protagonist in a Kafka story?”
Season Three, Episode 17

Joey: “Wait a second, I have to smile? You never said anything about smiling.”
Season One, Episode Twelve

Joey: “Just because I’m not in Daytona participating in some wet T-shirt contest doesn’t mean I’m not having any fun.”
Season Five, Episode 11

Joey: “God, Jen, what are we going to do all summer?”
Jen: “Same thing we did all last summer?”
Jen: “You’ll have to refresh my memory. I was otherwise engaged.”
Season Four, Episode 23

Joey: “You know, maybe — and this is just a shot in the dark — she didn’t mean to send it to the gossips at large. Maybe she’s just trying to get some private closure, never dreamed she’d be subjected to the Oprah psychobabble of her life-lacking peers. Now, do you guys want something to eat, or should I just bring over a nice tray of bon-bons so you guys can hunker down and watch your stories?”
Season Six, Episode Three

I have been wondering for a while now – why doesn’t Australian TV, free to air or pay, show repeats of Dawson’s Creek? From memory, it was fairly popular and I would be really interesting to see it again.

It’s your friendly fact checker here. Jen didn’t have a teenage pregnancy. Also, the fourth picture in your photogallery is not of Andie and Jack, it’s Pacey and his cougar teacher, Tamara Jacobs.

I hate to burst some of the commenters’ bubble, but my sister met Joshua Jackson once and she said he was a tool.

Having said that, I still love Dawson’s Creek. I have the whole series on DVD. And, yep, I’m Team Pacey. It’s all about the personality.

Does anyone remember Party of 5? I was only in primary school when this was on but I used to sneak out of my bedroom and watch it from behind the kitchen cupboards so my parents couldn’t see me…kinda funny to think about it now.

I adored this show and can proudly/sadly admit to having the box set (plus Buffy) on dvd. I adored this show. Hated Jen, bawled my eyes out when Grams died and was Team Pacey all the freaking way! I still adore Joshua Jackson. Still a hottie!

I was 12 in 1998 and I had all of those items!!! However, being all technical and geeky here- DC didn’t start in Australia until 1999, I remember spending every Wednesday in Year 7 rehashing the previous night’s episode!

LOVED Dawson’s Creek, still do and I’m not ashamed to admit it! I still want to marry Pacey when I grow up *swoon*

I am a Dawson’s Creek geek and picture 3 is Pacey hugging the teacher he had an affair with in Season 1 (I think her name may have been Tamara??).

Yep, that’s Pacey and Tamara Jacobs. The reason i know this is because from the age of 17 (which i was when the show started) i have LOVED Pacey Witter, and he remains my favourite TV character of all time (in a neck and neck race with Josh Lyman in The West Wing). Joshua Jackson is still divine and on the “freebie list” too….

this was the most important television show in high school – fridays conversations were 100% about what happened in last nights episode, quoting lines, wishing we were Joey and randomly bursting into the theme song with great gusto (but yet still very badly). Does anyone remember the first seasons theme song being better than the switch to paula coles?
The songs from the soundtrack cd still go round my ipod too frequently to admit in public! but they bring back so many memories!

I was about 15 years too old for Dawson’s Creek, got into it because it was what my youth group girls were into. Then I was hooked. Guilty admission: I have all the dvd’s & watch 3 seaons while making costumes last term.
I was also addicted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Friends

Throughout the years this show was on I was constantly called ‘Joey Potter’ for my generally cynical outlook and apparent ‘Joey-like’ behaviour… Still it was a great show, if just for Pacey- ahh the epitome of the great high school boyfriend!

I was only 10 in 1988 but I remember watching Dawson’s Creek whenever my Mum’s back was turned!!

I LOVED Pacey. And Joey, but I remember at times thinking she was a big Negative Nelly. I remember in one episode she had a woolskin jacket that I desperately coveted. That was the same episode in which Pacey admitted keeping a condom in his wallet (eeep!!).
I also remember HATING the character called Andie, but I can’t recall why…
And I remember a football player being in love with Jen.
And that Dawson had a John Lennon poster on his wall.

I think I desperately need to find the complete box set and brush up!

Is it just me, or does Katie Holmes look about 74 times happier in these shots? Ok I get that she’s younger, posing for a photo etc.

But we’ve not seen her smile like this in FOREVER and the smiles certainly haven’t reached her eyes like these.

I loooooved Dawson’s Creek! I was 16 in 1998 so I WAS the target audience. And for the record, I was totally Team Pacey, he was just so much cooler. I would have treated him much better than Joey (just saying). Dawson did absolutely nothing for me, but I felt we could have been friends. And I wanted to be there for Jen with her tough times as I was going through some myself at that age. I want to go out and buy the box sets now! Ahhhh memories…. :)

I love Dawson’s Creek. I used to tape every episode and watch them over and over. Now I just watch the dvds.

Also, Jen didn’t have a teenage pregnancy, she was in her mid 20′s when she had a baby. We didn’t get to see her pregnant either.
