For weeks the media has been speculating the reason behind Whitney Houston’s shock death on February 11 – the night before the Grammys.

Now they have some answers.

Whitney Houston‘s death was accidental. She died by accidental drowning, according to the Los Angeles coroner. But heart disease and cocaine use were also contributing factors.

Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey said autopsy results indicated Whitney was a chronic cocaine user. He also said marijuana and Xanax were found in the singer’s system. No foul play was suspected.

Whitney Houston

This is from the Huffington Post:

The 48-year-old was later laid to rest in New Jersey where Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, received negative attention after leaving his ex-wife’s funeral early due to a seating dispute.

Since her passing, media scrutiny has landed on Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina who is reportedly romantically involved with her unofficially adopted brother — although rumors of the pair’s engagement have been shot down. Bobbi Kristina will also serve as the sole heir to Houston’s estate.

The 48-year-old died in a Beverly Hills hotel room on February 11, one day before the Grammy awards, where Jennifer Hudson sang a tribute to the legendary singer.

How very sad. Addiction is a horrible disease. It’s tragic that another life has been lost. Two amazing voices lost in the space of a year.

My dad is celebrating 16 years of sobriety this year and I am so proud of him.
A sidenote: My dad spoke to me the other day about how he always disliked the term ‘clean and sober’ with regard to addiction, since, not only did he never see himself or other addicts as being “unclean”, but the terms are often used interchangeably to refer simply to sobriety i.e. not using whether it be alcohol or drugs. So, why do people use them together? I understand his puzzlement.

Saying someone is “clean and sober” is like calling something “new and improved” – if something is improved, it means that another similar item came before, therefore it can’t be new.

      Food for thought? ;)
