Amazing new movie, Mother and Child. Free double passes for Mamamia readers.

Sponsored Post: I’m hosting a special free preview of Mother and Child for Mamamia readers in Sydney and Melbourne so keep reading to find out how you can join me,  we’ve got heaps of tickets so you and a friend can come along. There are also tickets going for readers in other states because I don’t want anyone to feel state-based persecution (!). Here’s what you need to know…..

So. Hopscotch films approached me about advertising a new film on Mamamia.

“Sure”, I said. “What’s it about?” Well, it’s called Mother and Child. Stars Naomi Watts and Annette Bening. We want you to watch it. We think you’ll love it.

“I don’t like many films” I say (silently in my head). “But I adore Naomi Watts and Annette Bening, can you send me the trailer?”

And they did. And I happened to be with MM moderator Lana at the time and we both got a bit teary (Lana got a lot teary, I held it together mildly better because I am heroic).

I knew straight away that I wanted to see the film so I went to a preview on Friday.

Oh. My. God.

Naomi Watts

I think I can safely say that Mother and Child is one of the best films I’ve ever seen and I can’t think of the others. It’s……just…..awesome. There are no special affects. No big blue people fighting space monsters. Just some incredible acting, a gripping story, a beautiful script and some of my favourite actors in the world.

The film is centred around three women whose paths will cross and change them forever.  Karen (Annette Bening) is a reserved 50-year old nurse who was forced to give up her daughter Elizabeth for adoption 35 years ago.  She constantly questions her own choices and how they may have affected the daughter she has never known.  Her daughter Elizabeth (played by Naomi Watts) has grown into a single-minded career woman and despite never knowing her mother, shares more of her traits than she realises.  And then there is Lucy, played by Kerry Washington – a woman who is desperate to adopt a child of her own.

It is a hugely powerful and moving film about forgiveness, the choices we make, the chances we miss and the power of the unbreakable bond between a mother and child. I dare you to watch this trailer and not be moved.

Okay so now I bet you want to see THAT story unfold.  And you can because Mother and Child comes to cinemas on 17 June.

But, I watched that trailer and I really really want to see that movie and I don’t think I can wait till 17 June so here is some really good news (to help temper all that emotion you are feeling right now).  Hopscotch Films and Mamamia are offering Mamamia readers the chance to attend an exclusive advance screening of their amazing new film Mother and Child in Sydney and Melbourne.

I’ll be hosting both screenings. Yes I will.

Now that’s some good news.  A night out. At an amazing movie. With your Mamamia friends (and you can even bring along a real life friend).  We’ll watch it together and we’ll get to meet each other but you have to promise not to laugh at any smudged make up.   And you know what’s even cooler?  We’ll get together on a post afterwards (from the comfort of our computers) and we can talk about the film at length. Like a bookclub but with a movie.  And this time no one will see your panda eyes.
