The 2026 Oscar nominations are officially in — and from major snubs to smashing records, we have much to discuss.

Sinners, the Segregation-era vampire thriller starring Michael ‍B Jordan, has stormed into the awards race with the most Academy Award nominations of ​any film this year, landing a record 16 nods.

The film, by Ryan Coogler, smashed the previous record of 14, which for years was held by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016).

The perceived best-picture front-runner, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, came in next, scoring 13 nominations.

They'll face off against contenders including Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme , Bugonia, F1, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Train Dreams for the coveted best picture prize.

Our homegrown talent, Rose Byrne and Jacob Elordi earned their first Oscar nominations for their respective roles in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (best actress) and Frankenstein (best supporting).

Chloé Zhao's acclaimed Hamnet earned her a nod for best director. She's the only woman recognised in the category.

And it wouldn't be Oscars nominations day without taking a moment to talk about the snubs — and there are many.

Paul Mescal missed out on a best supporting actor nomination, despite Hamnet being one of the most nominated films.

His co-star Jessie Buckley, who's in the running for best actress, reacted to the news, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "I think he's extraordinary in this film. I know I've met a partner for life in doing this with him. I don't know what to say apart from he is, to me, my absolute."

Wicked: For Good was spectacularly left out of the race altogether — not even a nod for best song, even though they had two options in the running.

Costars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who last year were tipped for a double win this year, were left out of the best actress or supporting nominations. The first Wicked movie got 10 nominations last year, and won two Oscars, so it's a major upset.

Chase Infiniti, the 25-year-old leading lady in One Battle After Another, was also left out, despite leading the film that dominated nominations and earned nods at The Actor Awards and Golden Globes.
