The Meghan Markle effect is in full swing. If she wore it, you want to wear it too. It’s the effect that has resulted in the selling out of jeans, and women around the world copying the Duchess’s stunning wedding dress.
That’s exactly why when Angelina Jolie wore a very Markle-esque outfit to a royal function at St Paul’s Cathedral this weekend, people noticed the similarities immediately.
The 43-year-old actress wore a stunning grey dress and fascinator.
She also wore the insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, which she received in 2014 for both her work fighting sexual violence and her services to UK foreign policy.
While the similarities were originally pointed out by USA Today, fashion editors and admirers of the Duchess alike are now discussing the striking similarities, with Melissa Singer writing for the Sydney Morning Herald that Jolie wore soft grey tones, a bateau neckline and a fascinator, trademarks of the Duchess’s evolving style.
While at first glance Angelina Jolie evidently dressed similarly to the Duchess, it turns out the dress she wore was also by one of Meghan Markle’s favourite brands, Ralph & Russo, the brand who also created the Duchess’s stunning black detailed engagement dress. A press release from the brand also says that Jolie’s gloves, bag and shoes are also from Ralph & Russo.
It’s not the first time the Duchess has inspired the style of the masses.
Following the Duchess’s appearance with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto last year, the jeans that Markle wore sold out worldwide. The jeans in question were a lightly faded, mid-rise pair from American brand MOTHER with ripped detailing on the knee and ankle-grazing hem.
While her style has certainly changed now that she’s officially a royal, her influence certainly hasn’t.
