After six years together, Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell have announced their engagement.

Bindi Irwin has announced the exciting news that her partner of six years, Chandler Powell, proposed on her 21st birthday at Australia Zoo.

The former Dancing with the Stars contestant shared the news alongside a photo of her with Chandler directly after he had popped the question.

“On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” the TV personality and conservationist wrote.

“Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. Now let’s get married already!”

Chandler posted his own announcement on Instagram, telling the story of how the romantic proposal took place surrounded by nature at Bindi’s “favourite place” and where they both work, Australia Zoo.

“I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light,” the 22-year-old pro wakeboarder said of meeting the young star in 2015.

Before the announcement, Chandler had shared that he would be celebrating Bindi’s milestone with a day full of activities at the tourist attraction managed by the Irwin family in Queensland.

Chandler posted: “Beautiful Bee, I love you so much. You’re my best friend and whole world. I can’t wait to celebrate your birthday tomorrow at #AustraliaZoo. Here’s to another year and beyond of life changing adventures together.”

Speaking to Australian Women’s Weekly in 2017, Bindi said she considered her boyfriend “the one”, and said she hoped they would spend their lives together.

“I believe there’s always someone for everyone and when you find that one, as we have found each other, it’s a real blessing and a privilege,” Bindi told the publication, adding that her late dad Steve Irwin and Chandler would have hit it off.

“I’m lucky I have found the one, the person I want to spend all my time with … We all think Dad would have loved Chandler,” she said.
