"Look, I'm a bit of a bogan." Angie Kent on what we can expect from The Bachelorette 2019.

In just over a week, Australia will watch Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity’s Angie Kent begin her search for true love on The Bachelorette 2019.

So far, Osher and the Bach machine have only given us a few glimpses of what the 29-year-old’s season of the reality TV dating show will be like.

In a new interview with Stellar, the reality star reckons the nation won’t be shocked to learn she’s not “the typical Bachelorette Australia is used to seeing.”

“Yeah, look — I am a bit of a bogan. I’ve got a big mouth but a big heart,” Angie said.

“I reckon it’s because I’m a Queenslander. But there are different types of bogans. There’s the kind who are kind of ignorant; I’m not one of those. I just like to get dirty, and I’d rather live in a jungle than a mansion.”

Angie will be Australia’s fifth Bachelorette, following in the footsteps of Sam Frost, Georgia Love, Sophie Monk and Ali Oetjen. She said her season won’t be all rose petals, candles and strategically placed cheese boards. Well, there’ll be a bit of that, but also a lot of realness.

“I think people see me and think, ‘She’s relatable, she’s a bit of a grub. We laugh with her and at her at the same time.’”

“All I said was I didn’t want to be morphed into a stereotypical Bachelorette. I wanted to feel like I [was] still me — strong and independent — and that the partner I pick would match that.”

Angie also told the publication she is “so very happy”, which is a good sign she has found love in the Bach mansion.

In our opinion, The Bachelorette premiere date can’t come soon enough, but while we’re waiting, here’s what else we know about Angie and her season of The Bachelorette.

Angie’s brother goes undercover.

Last week, the first Bachelorette contestant was introduced in a promo: Angie’s little brother, Bradley.

“It’s very different to anything that’s happened before…,” Angie says as a suitor walks towards her on the red carpet.

“I am Angie’s brother. I’m going into the mansion undercover,” Brad confirms to the camera.

“Anyone that knows me will know that my family and friends are my everything. I need to know who can fit in at the infamous Kent Boxing Day festivities and who better to help me decide that than my under cover baby brother,” Angie said of the plot twist on Instagram.

Angie has been single for eight years.

Angie shared with a NSW radio station earlier this year she’s been single since she was 21 years old.

When asked if it was because she didn’t have the time or didn’t like dating, Angie joked to The Edge’s Mike E and Emma it was a “maybe bit of both”.

“No, I just always wanted to do everything myself. I wanted to travel, I wanted a career, I wanted to be with my friends. And now I feel like I’ve ticked a lot of boxes and I’m ready to get amongst it.”

In a blog post she wrote in 2016, Angie described how she managed to embed “pretty hardcore” the feeling that she couldn’t have both a boyfriend and a career after finishing uni at 21.

“I felt like I couldn’t have both. I couldn’t have this really great career and a boyfriend,” she wrote. “So I well and truly managed to push away a good man at the time and pretty much have never had one since.”

Angie’s experience of mental illness.

In another blog post that same year, which resurfaced during her stint on I’m A Celeb, Angie wrote about her mental health struggles.

“I internally struggle terribly with anxiety and sometimes I can get into a deep depression. I tend to get out of it quite quickly, but the little sucker always seems to sneak back in,” she wrote.

“Generally, my anxiety is at its worst, or my depression will return when I am run down, consume too much booze or think I can take on 150 different responsibilities at one time.”

Angie spoke about her experience with less-than-stellar mental health beginning in 2011 in another post.

“I would work 15-hour days, was ridiculously underweight, hardly slept due to being so anxious about trying to be perfect at everything, especially work,” she wrote.

“When it came to having a day off, I would binge drink like a mad woman, and ultimately managed to start a fight with all my nearest and dearest. So there is lesson number one, numbing your pain with booze isn’t the answer.”

Angie said that she’d over time realised she needed to invest in self-care.

“As I’ve gotten older, I have realised how important happiness is. I came to realise I didn’t love myself at all. I still don’t completely love myself, but by golly, I am working on it.”

The Bachelorette Australia premieres on Wednesday, October 9 at 7.30pm on Channel 10. You can read Stellar’s full interview with Angie Kent here.
