Wedding season is here and while we can't wait to celebrate all the brides and grooms, we'd be lying if we didn't admit our top priority is figuring out what to wear.

When it comes to wedding guest dressing, we're always told whatnotto wear (no white or anything too revealing that will distract from the bride), but rarely are we given options thatareconsidered appropriate.

So, let's start from the beginning. First, the dress code is: Is it black tie? Is it cocktail? Here's a short breakdown of what each dress code means:

Black tie.

The most formal of dress codes, usually reserved for events that take place in the evening. Women are expected to wear floor-length gowns in satin or silk fabrics, but tulle, velvet and embellished dresses can also be worn.

Cocktail.

This is arguably the most popular dress code of all, as it strikes a balance between formal and casual. Look for dresses that are either knee-length, tea-length or midi.

Smart-casual.

Now, smart-casual doesn't mean you can rock up in jeans and a t-shirt, instead, smart-casual is all about looking polished without going too over-the-top. Think flowy sundresses and linen fabrics.
