The 'throw on and go' dress, or TOAG, is a concept coined by Aussie personal stylist and content creator Tina Abeysekara.

She essentially gave us a name for a style women have been turning to in the throes of outfit panic for decades.

Whether it's a long kaftan or a collared shirt-dress, it's all about the appeal of having one piece that's simple to style — just add accessories and you're out the door.

TOAG dresses aren't a fallback option for me, they're a go-to staple. I've compiled half a closet's worth of dressier and more casual styles that bring ease to the whole process of getting ready.

I've also noticed they're the outfits I'm most often complimented on.

• It needs to be comfortable enough to wear all day.

• There should be versatility: a style that's chic enough for lunch but still casual for running errands.

• It has to feel stylish, and not like I'm wearing a mumu.
