Bruce Lehrmann denied doco footage amid court case. 

Former political staffer Bruce Lehrmann has lost a legal bid to access copies of all footage from a documentary featuring Brittany Higgins.

Lehrmann had subpoenaed the producers of the documentary Silenced — a post-#MeToo documentary described as spotlighting international human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson's fight "against the weaponisation of defamation laws to silence survivors" — and signalled a possible attempt to ban its broadcast ahead of his Queensland trial for rape.

Judge Deborah Richards on Monday ruled to set aside Lehrmann's subpoena for a copy of the documentary, all unused footage and its distribution schedule, finding the material was not currently relevant to the upcoming trial. 

Stranger Than Fiction Films, the company behind Silenced, appeared in Queensland District Court in Toowoomba on June 18 to respond to Lehrmann's demands.

According to the company's court filings, the documentary "reveals how defamation laws are weaponised to silence survivors".

Stranger Than Fiction Films' barrister argued against the subpoena in court, saying Silenced did not make reference to Lehrmann's upcoming trial.

Lehrmann is set to stand trial from November 2, accused of twice raping a woman at a house in regional Queensland in 2021. He has yet to enter a plea but has previously said via his solicitor he will contest the charges

Former colleague Brittany Higgins has previously been part of other legal actions involving Lehrmann.

Sydney Film Festival said Silenced's "behind-the-headlines interviews reveal how the legal system is being used to victimise, discredit and ruin survivors".

Higgins was listed as a major interview subject alongside human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson and actress Amber Heard.

Young mum remembered as partner charged with DV murder.

A family is grieving the loss of a ''beautiful young mother'' who died from gunshot wounds in an alleged domestic violence murder.

Detective Acting Inspector Leia Urquhart said emergency services rushed to a Gold Coast property in Biggera Waters after a neighbour called triple zero on Sunday evening.

They found 23-year-old Mallorie Jane Roberts with gunshot wounds at the home.

Urquhart described it as ''a pretty confronting scene''.

Despite the "very best efforts" of first responders, Mallorie was declared dead at the scene.

Ethan Midgley, 23, was arrested at the home and charged with domestic violence-related murder and unlawful possession of weapons used to commit an indictable offence.

A friend of Mallorie's family said she was heartbroken by the devastating loss of ''such a beautiful young mum''. 

The victim's son had been staying with other family members at the time of the shooting. 

Police seized a homemade, unregistered firearm allegedly used in the shooting.

It's understood the victim and the charged man, who is not the boy's father, were in a relationship and lived together at the home.

Midgley's case was mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court and he was remanded in custody to reappear in July.

Hantavirus outbreak nearing end. 

The hantavirus outbreak linked to a cruise ship carrying 147 passengers and crew is nearing its end, the head of the World Health Organisation says.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said all contacts of two cases identified in South Africa had now completed their follow-up period, with no additional cases reported.

"Quarantine and follow-up periods have also been completed for everyone in Spain and the Netherlands, including the MV Hondius crew members," he wrote on X.

He said as of June 25, 30 contacts were still under follow-up.

"The total number of cases remains at 13, including three fatalities. The situation remains stable, and the outbreak is nearing its end."

The outbreak of the South American Andes variant of the virus on the small cruise ship sparked global concern. 

In total, around 150 passengers, crew members and accompanying experts from 23 countries were on board the MV Hondius.

The WHO was notified on May 2 that a cluster of passengers on the ship had been diagnosed with the severe respiratory illness.

The WHO believes the chain of infection may have originated with a Dutch couple, who could have contracted the virus ashore in Argentina before boarding the ship.

Teyana Taylor wins big at BET Awards. 

Teyana Taylor fought back tears when Janet Jackson presented her with the Icon of the Year Award at the Black Entertainment Television awards.

The One Battle ‌After Another actress took home four awards, including the Fashion Vanguard Award, Best Actress, and Video Director of the Year for the ‌short film Escape Room ​at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The ceremony featured performances from Cardi B, Raye, T.I., Kehlani, Doechii, ⁠and Don Toliver.

Other honours of the night included ​Cardi B winning Best Female Hip-Hop ⁠Artist and Lauryn Hill taking home the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award.
