Mallorie Jane had a "beautiful heart" and "kind spirit".

She was someone who loved others wholly and was equally loved in return.

The 23-year-old was a young mother; her young son was her entire world.

Now, her little boy will have to grow up without her after Mallorie's life was cut short on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to a home on Loder Street in the Gold Coast suburb of Biggera Waters, in Queensland, about 8pm on Sunday, in relation to a woman suffering life-threatening gunshot injuries.

A 23-year-old woman from Biggera Waters was declared dead at the scene.

Police said a local man of the same age was arrested without incident.

He has since been charged with domestic violence murder and unlawful possession of weapons used to commit an indictable offence (domestic violence).

The 23-year-old accused was due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday but did not appear and has been remanded in custody, with the matter adjourned to next month, ABC reports.

At a press conference, Queensland Police Detective Acting Inspector Leia Urquhart said the pair were believed to be in a de facto relationship and to have lived together in the unit.

Urquhart confirmed Mallorie's child was not home on Sunday night, per ABC and the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Police recovered a homemade firearm from the home that they believe was used in the shooting.

Close family friend Haylee Harris described Mallorie as a "beautiful young mum."

"Our hearts are shattered following the tragic loss of our beautiful Mallorie, whose life was taken far too soon in a devastating act of [alleged] domestic violence," she wrote on a GoFundMe.

"Mallorie leaves behind her precious son… a loving sister, and a family whose lives have been changed forever.

"She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her beautiful heart, kind spirit, and the love she had for those around her."

Haylee said the fundraiser would support Mallorie's son and her family as they navigate the difficult time ahead.

"No family should have to face such heartbreak alone," she said.

"Rest peacefully, beautiful Mallorie. You will always be loved, remembered, and never forgotten."
