19 very clever ideas for styling short hair.

Lara Worthington chopped and we dutifully followed. Short hair is officially the new black, and everyone from Zoe Foster Blake to Kristen Stewart have gone there.

Unlike long hair, which can be piled up into an easy top knot or style at any time, short hair needs constant attention. But it doesn’t need to be hard.

Here are our picks of 19 great short hairstyles that are easy to achieve and will keep you looking fresh.

1. The curly crop.

If you have wavy, curly and thick hair, this is the style for you. Keep it blunt across the base, and encourage those big bouncy curls to go as wild as possible.

 2. The faux-hawk.

So your hair is too short to load up into a ponytail, but too long to leave hanging around your face? Go for the faux-hawk.

Depending how long your hair is, you can simply style it up and back in a quiff, or even manage a loose braid that pushes back your fringe.

3. The asymmetrical cut.

Yes, we know. The asymmetrical cut sounds very 'Can I please speak to the manager?' - but we promise you, it has had a very modern makeover.

This style works best on women with straight hair, who can work a sleek side part and closely cropped around the nape of the neck.

 4. The mini-bun.

Until you have short hair, you will never really appreciate the ponytail.

Nothing is quite as exciting as when you are growing out your locks and FINALLY - you can fit your hair into a ponytail!

Tip: bobby pins will be your best friend.

5. Knotted buns.

The cutest hair trend in a long time, tiny knotted buns or twists are perfect for short hair. Go for two small buns on top of the head, or if you're feeling adventurous, go for several.

6. The lob.

It's long. It's short. It's the easiest way to wear your hair when you're trying to grow it out: keep the front as long as possible to frame your face, and wear it sleek and blunt.

The lob is also a great intermediate style for ladies wanting to take the plunge with something short, but aren't quite convinced just yet.
