Zoe Foster Blake names the popular makeup product that's "very unflattering on most women."

When Zoe Foster Blake talks makeup and skincare, the women of Australia sit up and listen. Attentively.

With good reason, too — this is a “dame” who has years of experience as a Beauty Editor, two beauty books and a popular skincare line to her name, so she knows her stuff.

Foster Blake is full of great makeup tips, but she’s also got some thoughts on the looks and products that are best avoided.

“I think [eye] liners [have had] too good a rap for too long. I think it’s very unflattering on most women,” the Go-To Skincare founder tells Kate Waterhouse in the latest Date With Kate interview.

“Black liner around the eye makes your eyes look smaller.”

We’re not sure the Duchess of Tightlining Cambridge would be pleased to hear this.

However, rather than simply naming and shaming, Foster Blake has kindly offered up an alternative for those of us who swear by kohl-rimmed eyes.

“I think you should reassess, if you’re a really big black liner user, maybe even just doing the top line, not lower, or try a brown or a plum or even a navy,” she suggests.

So… we’ll meet you in the coloured eyeliner section of Sephora next weekend, yeah?

When asked for her ultimate makeup tip, the Amazinger Face author had a straightforward answer.

Listen: Zoe Foster Blake tells Mamamia’s Holly Wainwright how she juggles her busy work and family life. (Post continues after audio.)

“Something that you get the most amount of impact for the smallest amount of effort, and to me that’s lipstick!” she told Waterhouse.

“Lipstick is always in, whether it’s matte, creamy, glossy and so on.”

Foster Blake’s interview with Waterhouse covered a range of topics, including the upcoming TV adaptation of her book The Wrong Girl and whether she’s planning to give her son Sonny a baby brother or sister.

The answer is yes… just not quite yet.

“We want at least another kid, but I was always going to leave quite a gap between the two,” the writer says.

“I also sort of broke my body with Sonny … So I want to get my body super-fit and tight, not tight but like core strength, so that it doesn’t break again.” (Post continues after gallery.)

Foster Blake also admits the demands of her career can make it challenging to find the right time to “fit” another baby in.

“Last time I did this shitty job [at timing my pregnancy]. I had a book and a skin-care line and then a baby! It was terrible timing,” she recalls.

“It’s a lot of things to consider because it’s not just [the birth], it’s two years of your life. It’s the pregnancy, birth, it’s the breast-feeding … It’s all of that. So, I take it seriously.”
