A lot of people think North West is far too young for her new hairstyle.

Just days before her fifth birthday, North West celebrated the occasion with her mum Kim Kardashian in New York City.

Wearing Yeezys designed by her dad Kanye West and a candy necklace, the eldest Kardashian grandchild was treated to every five-year-old’s dream – a visit to an ice cream parlour and a candy bar.

But all eyes were on one thing – North’s hair.

Kim’s eldest child’s usual natural curls had been straightened and pulled into a high Ariana Grande-esque ponytail.

Twitter users were quick to call out the new hair, with some claiming North is too young for the hairstyle and that the heat treatments may be damaging her hair.

But some commenters were worried about more than just hair damage, with some referring to the pressures women of colour face to chemically treat their natural hair.

Despite what people are saying, Kim has made an effort in the past to get to know North’s natural hair type.

In an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2016, Kim got a tutorial on braiding after admitting she wasn’t sure how to handle North’s curly hair.

Kim has also spoken a lot about making her child aware of her biracial identity.

“Kanye always has his family around and people who look like my daughter – that’s important to me,” Kim said.
