If you're in the mood to whip out the karaoke machine or try out for a part in the local musical, honestly, that’s not even a little bit surprising – because Leo season is here and it’s all about that main character energy.
And if you think because you're not a Leo that this doesn't apply to you, think again, friend. Every astrological sign is affected by every season, at least to some extent, so getting your head around the intricacies of Leo season will help everyone navigate this time with ease.
We sat down with one of our fave astrologer girlies, Hollie Azzopardi, to find out what Leo season means has in store for all of us, and how to make it a cracker of a month!
Listen to Carmen Azzopardi talk to Allira Potter on Fill My Cup. Post continues below.
What is Leo season?
For the uninitiated, astrological seasons indicate which sign the sun falls in for a certain period of time, meaning that Leo season refers to the month-long period when the sun’s placement is in Leo.
“We can use the astrological signs to indicate the emotional and energetic undercurrents of the sign for each season,” explains Hollie. And just because you’re not a Leo doesn’t mean you’re not affected.
“Even if you don't have a personal planet [your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars] in the sign, it's still in your chart and you're still going to feel its energy in some way.”
However, if do happen to be a li’l lion, or you have any Leo placements in your chart, you’ll feel the energetic implications of Leo season more than those who don’t.
When does Leo season start?
Leo season starts on July 23 and finishes up on August 22, making way for Virgo season to start. The dates don’t change from year to year, so mark it in your diary once and you’re sorted til the end of time, basically.
Leo season 2023: What you need to know.
Leo is a fire sign and it’s ruled by the Sun – so when we hit Leo season, we're shifting from the watery emotional depths of Cancer season (a water sign) into the element of fire. “Think about water versus fire – it can be a jarring experience for the first few days!” says Hollie.
Actually, the first few days as we transition into any season can feel quite jarring, she says, because you're always going into an energy that's so different.
If you know a Leo (or you are a Leo!), you’ll know this sign is all about shining bright.
“Leo season is about us showing up in our individuality as unapologetically ourselves,” says Hollie. “This is why Leos often get a bad rap for being ‘too much’, because this sign shines a spotlight on those spaces and parts of ourselves other people might be fearful to step fully into.”
Leo season is a big invitation to do exactly this; to be unequivocally you. It’s also a lot of fun as it’s a time when we are more inclined to play and to create. “Leo is such a creative sign,” explains Hollie. “It's so funny because every Leo season, you can see all the Leos in your Instagram stories up on the tables dancing at their birthday parties, or with a karaoke microphone in hand. This is the season to party!”
This is a time to put on your dancing shoes, says Hollie; to book that karaoke booth with your friends – “and even if you're not a Leo, it is a time to celebrate life, because life is worth celebrating.”
Leo season is also the perfect time to express yourself uniquely, without fear of what other people might think, Hollie adds. “Leo energy is main character energy. It’s all about being unapologetically who you are; not being afraid to take up space and step into the centre stage of your life.”
Thanks to that fire element mixed with the warmth of the ruling planet, the Sun, you’ve got a very warm energy this season. “By that we mean it’s is an open-hearted energy; it’s the energy of love, of being really generous.” Consider this your reminder to start dishing out some random (or not-so-random) acts of kindness!
It’s also a time to shine, says Hollie. “We're all here to shine our uniqueness and our unique expression and Leo season is the time to do that without apology. It's the time to take up space, in whatever way that means to us."
A really great question to ask yourself in Leo season is, ‘Where have I dimmed my light or wronged myself for the unique parts of who I am? Or, ‘What are the stories I've told myself around being ‘too much’ and how I start to occupy a bit more space in my life?’
It's also the time to create and to play, so if you’ve been thinking about doing a pottery class or signing up for singing lessons, now is the time! “It’s also the perfect time to look at where you have restricted your ability to be childlike in behaviour,” says Hollie. “Not childish – obviously we know the difference – but rather, where have you limited yourself in playing and finding joy in life unapologetically?”
3 key things to do this Leo season
1. Light it up.
This is the season to shine – whatever way that
