Late last year, cinemas were filled to the brim to watch Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried star in one of the biggest movies of 2025.

If this all sounds familiar, allow me to jog your memory. The Housemaid follows Millie ( Sydney Sweeney) as she desperately searches for employment while living in her car, and finds it in an unlikely place as a live-in maid of a very wealthy and equally as attractive family (Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar).

In the weeks that follow, Millie is slowly gaslit and abused by Seyfried's character, Nina, then ends up (SPOILER ALERT, but I did assume you've already seen it before clicking this article) having an affair with her husband. We then discover that he has been the real villain all along, physically and mentally abusing his wife, who escapes and helps Millie to bring him to his downfall. Get it? Because she pushed him down the stairs.

And look, was it the best movie of the year? Probably not. Was it incredibly successful? Oh, yes.

The story is originally based on Freida McFadden's psychological thriller novel, but book fans weren't the only ones contributing to the movie's success. It brought in over $300 million at the box office, so it's fair to say a sequel is in high demand.

Now, it's been announced that the second movie is officially on its way and the cast is positively STACKED, including the latest addition of everyone's favourite TV boyfriend, so you can bet I will be spending more of my money on this franchise.

Here is everything we know about The Housemaid sequel so far.

What is The Housemaid sequel?

At the end of The Housemaid, we see Millie interview with a new potential employer who implies she is hiring her for more than her house-keeping services.

In the original book series, Millie goes on to become the housemaid for another two wealthy families, for another two books. The second being The Housemaid's Secret, which is the title of the next film.

In the sequel, she works in the home of a Manhattan couple, the Garricks. She is employed by Douglas Garrick, a wealthy businessman, who says he needs help caring for his wife, Wendy, who he says is unwell. But, as Millie begins to work, she notices signs that Wendy may not need as much help as she originally thought.

Millie uses her knowledge from her time with Nina and Andrew to try to take control of the situation and things get predictably hectic. Prepare for more sweaty palms.

Who is in The Housemaid's Secret?

If I may say, buckle up, because it feels like every day a new cast announcement is made for The Housemaid's Secret, with yet another hot person filmed holding the book.

Sydney Sweeney will be back as Millie, obvs, but considering Andrew is now… dead, there will likely be no Brandon or Amanda in the next movie. But, we will see the return of Enzo the groundskeeper, played by Michele Morrone (365 Days).

Instead, we have the Garricks, who will be played by Kirsten Dunst (Interview with the Vampire, Marie Antoinette) and Paul Anthony Kelly (Love Story). So, yes, they absolutely could not have chosen anyone better. As the unassuming receptionist, Marybeth, we also have Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect).

And now, ladies and gentlemen, this week it was announced our very own Dean Di Laurentis, aka Stephen Kalyn from Off Campus has been recruited to play Brock, a new love interest of Millie's. So yes, yes, I will be there. Thank you very much.

When will The Housemaid's Secret be released?

The Housemaid's Secret will be in cinemas worldwide on December 17, 2027.
