Excuse me while I talk about the unfortunate state of my underwear drawer.

It's currently a graveyard of greying "nude" G-strings from 2018 and those thick, seamless black briefs that have lost so much elasticity they basically fall around my ankles by lunchtime.

When it comes to purchasing underwear, I have a very specific brief (pun intended). I want high-waisted support (because I'm not a crazy person), I want comfort, and… I want them to be... fun?

I'm tired of my first interaction every morning being a visual representation of "giving up." I want joy. I want to look in the mirror and think oh, she's cute instead of, oh, she needs help.

Usually, when I search for "high waisted" and "comfortable," the internet serves me something that looks like it belongs in an episode of Downton Abbey.

But then, I found Nala. Specifically, the Nala Mesh High Waist Brief.

They were sitting there, looking all sheer and chic, and I thought, there is no way those won't roll down or create dents in my hips. But for $15 (on sale), I knew the risk was lower than my last Hinge date's standards.

And now, I'm proud to say: I LOVE THESE UNDIES. Seriously— I'd shout it from my level 12 CBD office if I didn't risk getting arrested, or worse… fired.

These are not your average "safe" undies. They're made from what the brand calls "flossy mesh," which sounds like something I can eat, but I'm not gonna try. The underwear is actually just a very soft, breathable recycled nylon.

There were three distinct things that made me nod my head in agreement:

It's a wide, folded waistband. No digging, no aggressive elastic that non-consentually distorts my body. Comfy? Tick.

Because they're sheer mesh, they look cute AF without being "I'm wearing a costume" awkward. Like who knew everyday underwear can be SEXY as well. Pretty? Tick.

Now for the bonus round: They're made from recycled off-cuts that were headed for landfill. So, technically, my butt is saving the planet (you're all welcome).

Before I tried them on, I was worried the mesh would be scratchy. I have sensitive skin and a low tolerance for "fashion over function" when it comes to my nether regions. But these feel like a silky hug.

Now that I know what it feels like to have "cool girl" underwear, I have to go through the process of throwing out the tattered remains of my old collection.

If you've been hesitant to try a mesh brief because you're worried about support or "the roll," this is your sign. They're currently $15 at Nala, which is basically the price of a ham sandwich in Sydney. Choose the underwear (they last longer).
