People are creating their own Christmas trees using books. And they look stunning.

If you’ve always wanted to do something different when it comes to putting up your Christmas tree, 2016 is the year to do it.

This year, we’ve already seen Kyly Clarke’s ingenious bauble-free tree bottom, Bec Judd’s trendy tree made from recycled timber and this super magical Harry Potter-themed tree.

Now, we give you an idea that is ‘literary’ awesome (see what I did there?): a Christmas tree made out of books.

Better yet? Once the festive season is done, the books can return to your shelves, ready for another read.

Simply stack up your favourite reads, drape some decorative lights over their pages and VOILA, your smart (both in the looks and the intelligence sense) tree is ready for presents to be popped underneath.

The book tree can be as big or as small as you want, and it can be assembled anywhere in your home: your lounge room, your bedside table and even, next to your dog:

Not having to vacuum those pesky pine needles off your floor AND having plenty of reading material within easy reach?

Christmas perfection.
