Comedian Celeste Barber and her husband Api Robin have separated after more than 20 years together.

Robin, 52, confirmed the news in a statement posted to Instagram, with the caption "heavy hearts."

"The past few months have been incredibly challenging and deeply heartbreaking for us both," the statement began.

"After much reflection, the decision has been made to separate."

Robin said there is "still love and respect" between him and Barber, but added they are both "at capacity."

"[We] have come to recognise we may want for different things," he wrote.

"Our priority remains our children and their wellbeing. We kindly ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this."

The couple share two sons — Lou, 14, and Buddy, 11.

Robin, whose Instagram bio once read "Hot Husband" — a nickname given by Barber and her fans — has now updated it to "Formerly Hot Husband."

At the time of publication, Barber, 43, has not yet commented on the separation.

Robin's post was inundated with messages of support.

"I'm so very sorry to read this," wrote columnist Melissa Hoyer. "Wishing you both kindness and good things in the next chapter & really appreciate the grace in how you've shared this. Take Care."

Retired Olympian Libby Trickett also shared her condolences, writing: "I'm so sorry. This would be such a difficult time for you all. Sending you all lots of love."

Barber, who rose to fame by satirising celebrities on Instagram, previously spoke to Mamamia about her relationship with Robin — whom she met when she was 21.

"He walked into that bar and I went, 'I'm done. Lock it down,'" she told our No Filter podcast in 2025.

At the time, Robin was 30 and had two young daughters, aged two and four. But Barber was convinced she could handle it.

"I had big hopes and big dreams for myself, but my heart just exploded when I saw him and I went, 'I can make it all work. It'll be fine,'" she said.

But as her career took off, things became complicated.

Her acting role on Australian medical drama, All Saints, had come to an end, and she wanted to chase the big lights of Hollywood.

Barber made the decision to end things with Robin and move to LA.

Barber was driving down Malibu with a friend when she had a realisation.

"I was like, 'I haven't had my period in a while'," she recalled. "And she was like, 'You're pregnant.' I was like, 'How dare you'."

But the friend was right.

Learning she was pregnant prompted Barber to return to Australia and reconcile with Robin.

They welcomed their first son, Lou, in 2011. Two years later, in 2013, they married in Bali.

Barber and Robin then moved to the Central Coast, had their second boy, Buddy, and settled into family life.

Though not in Hollywood, Barber managed to carve out success on her home turf.

It began with a parody photo of Kim Kardashian, where the comedian recreated the reality star's lingerie pose on a mound of dirt.

From there, her celebrity parodies took off.

"I knew it was making women laugh and not hate themselves as much," she told Mamamia. "Fighting against everything that is pushed on us. And I also knew it was funny, and I wanted producers and directors to see it."

Since then, Barber has amassed nearly 10 million Instagram followers, celebrity fans including Kris Jenner and Cindy Crawford, a Netflix special, a beauty line, and more.

While Barber has no issues navigating the fame independently, the 43-year-old previously said she was happy to have Robin by her side throughout it all.

"I could do this on my own, but I have no interest in doing it on my own," she told No Filter.

"I don't want to have the biggest house on the tallest hill and live on it alone. I want it to be with him."

She added that the pair had a "desperate love for each other."

"I love him on a cellular level… It terrifies me and it infuriates me."
