Every day I wake up and stare directly into a small little luminous box that tells me information. News, tidbits, things that have happened while I've been sleeping. I roll over, tap a couple buttons and scroll through the onslaught of #things. 

Usually, because I'm a pop culture enthusiast and also it's in my job title, those things will be related to the world of entertainment. From new celebrity couples to scandalous feuds, it's all there on my little internet brick.

But my very favourite kind of news to wake up to, is news of a new Hollywood project. Because I love movies. Big fan of the cinema and all that it entails.

Announcements of unexpected pairings, rogue new plot lines, or adaptations of books I've been dying to see on screen. And of course, in this current economy, cash-grab remakes and sequels to projects we thought were long done.

From the big budget releases to the announcements that made me go 'what the hell?' please enjoy my guide to all the most anticipated film releases of 2027 and 2026. 

The best new movies coming out in 2026 and 2027.

One Night Only (2026)

Have you ever wondered "what would happen if they made a romantic comedy about this weirdly horrifying situation?" Well, Callum Turner seems intent on answering that question over and over again.

First, he played a love interest in Eternity — a movie about landing in the afterlife only to find out you had to choose between two soulmates for one happily ever after in heaven. Yikes.

Now, he's starring in One Night Only, opposite the charming Monica Barbaro.

Set in New York City, like all good rom-coms are, the movie follows Allie and Owen, two love-starved strangers who crash into each other on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex. Oh yes, in this slightly fictionalised version of the real world, people can only have pre-martial sex once every 365 days. Yikes.

Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart as they desperately try to find each other. Okay swoon? I'm sold.

From the mind of Will Gluck (Easy A, Anyone But You), this deeply random idea might turn out to be the best rom-com of 2026.

The Catch (May, 2027)

Emma Stone is returning to her comedic roots in a starring role opposite Chris Pine.

Penned by Stone's husband Dave McCary, The Catch has been described by Deadline as a "two-hander" rom-com.

Official plot details haven't been released just yet, but some rumours have suggested Emma's character might be inspired by the "Steve Bartman" incident. No idea what that is? Same. Apparently it's about a sports fan whose interference cost their favourite team the game.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing Chris will play the baseball player and Emma will be the delightful yet cringe-worthy fan who causes chaos and becomes their public enemy… and then they fall in love. Just a thought.

Hungry (2026)

Someone finally made a horror film based on the psychologically thrilling events of the iconic board game, Hungry Hungry Hippos. And it's about time. Because we have simply been paying too much attention to sharks and crocodiles and anacondas.

Hungry is a 2026 survival thriller, featuring tourists fighting for survival against a killer hippo in the Louisiana swamplands.

The trailer has been released, and it's a jump-scare-filled extravaganza that will have you giggling, flinching, and… also… wondering if this could be a cult cinematic masterpiece? It's due in June 2026.

The Love Hypothesis (2026).

While some recent romantic book adaptations have not lived up to the hype for fans, The Love Hypothesis is sure to make our hearts sing. The book, written by Ali Hazelwood, was a TikTok sensation. The movie? It's going to blow all of our minds.

Lili Reinhart (Riverdale, Hustlers) and Tom Bateman (Murder On The Orient Express, Based On A True Story) are starring in this sexy rom-com set in a science department at an American college. There's fake dating, there's longing glances across rooms, and, most importantly, there are steamy scenes.

But best of all, they cast Tom Bateman in the role of the romantic lead. Why does this matter? The male character is based on fan-fiction of Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. Who starred opposite Adam Driver in that Star Wars film? TOM BATEMAN'S WIFE DAISY RIDLEY. It's a beautiful tribute to crazy fan-fiction readers across the globe.

This is truly perfect casting.

Office Romance (July, 2026)

This year, JLo is heading back to her roots with a raunchy romantic comedy set to drop on Netflix later this year.

Office Romance follows Jackie Cruz (Jennifer Lopez), a high-powered, workaholic CEO who runs her empire with an iron fist and zero room for distractions. Daniel Blanchflower (Brett Goldstein) is a new employee who manages to undo all of Jackie's carefully constructed control.

The cast is rounded out by a powerhouse group of actors, including comedians and #serious dramatic stars.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (2027)

This one is for the nerds.

Peter Jackson, alongside Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, is taking us on our next adventure in The Lord Of The Rings franchise.

The story, which Deadline reports has been developed from JRR Tolkien's footnotes, is set between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. It follows Aragorn's quest to capture Gollum before the creature can reveal the Ring's location to Sauron.

Now the question on your lips might just be, who is going to play Aragorn? Unfortunately, it won't be the original actor Viggo Mortensen. For fairly obvious age-related reasons.

This time, Jamie Dornan will play Strider — and personally, I'm into it.

Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Gollum (Sméagol) and he will ALSO direct the movie because he's a man of far too many talents.

Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen are returning as Frodo and Gandalf. Lee Pace is also back as Thranduil. Leo Woodall will portray Halvard, and Kate Winslet will play Marigol.

This sounds like it will be the hit of the year for me, the girl who saw the first film in cinemas when she was far too young and proceeded to have nightmares about The Nazgûl for weeks to come.

The Mummy 4 (October, 2027)

We don't yet know the official title for the fourth instalment of The Mummy franchise, but we do know the most important thing: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are coming back y'all.

While we don't know too many details, either, we can safely assume it will involve checking out some ruins and checking in on the modern romance of Rick and Evelyn O'Connell. Plus, Evelyn's brother Jonathan (John Hannah) will also be there. Huzzah!

The film will be directed by film-making duo Radio Silence — Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — known for Ready or Not and some of the Scream sequels.

Oceans (2027)

Following some casting changes, Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper are reported to be starring in an Ocean's Eleven prequel about Danny Ocean's parents. Who also dabble in criminal activities, if you can expand your worldview to incorporate such an intriguing premise.

Robbie teased the storyline during a sizzle reel at CinemaCon last month.

"Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents," she said. "You'll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix."

Given Sandra Bullock's Ocean's Eight spin-off was a certified hit in my house, I will be sitting in the cinema for this one. Because I love sexy crime.
