Aussie Gabrielle Requena invented her pretty unique product, a silicone ‘chest plate’, after failing to find a solution for treating the creases on her décolletage that were evident after sleeping, and didn’t seem to go away.
“The inspiration for Wrinkles Schminkles came from me trying to solve a real problem – those dreaded chest lines and wrinkles,” Gabrielle told Mamamia.
What is Wrinkles Schminkles?
“Being an avid side sleeper and growing up under the harsh Australian sun, I started seeing signs of ageing on my décolletage in my early 30s, and I quickly learnt that all the creams, serums, lotions and potions on the market did little to treat this problem area.”
“Finding a solution to this problem was further inspired by my French blood and half my upbringing in France, which had lead me to adopt the French attitude to ageing gracefully. Et voila…Wrinkles Schminkles.”
Gabrielle started prototyping with medical grade silicone, knowing it was a scientifically proven method of healing scars on the skin, particularly after surgery.
“Fast forward three years and we have a complete range of medical grade silicone pads to treat many problem areas including the chest, neck, forehead, eyes, mouth and hands,” Gabrielle said.
How does Wrinkles Schminkles work?
Medical grade silicone is proven scientifically to heal and correct scarring on the skin. Gabrielle’s invention uses this very same science to treat and correct wrinkles and creases. The sheet of silicone is worn on the chest area while you sleep – it’s adhesive so won’t fall off – and you’ll get anywhere from 20 to 30 uses out of each one.
Gabrielle says it works at three different levels:
1. Keeps skin taut so it can’t crease or wrinkle
When you apply Wrinkles Schminkles silicone pads, the skin can no longer crease to cause the wrinkles. They’re kept in place using a medical grade silicone adhesive.
2. Silicone creates hydration and moisture.
Doctors use silicone sheets to prevent and treat the appearance of scars. Silicone pads work the same way - with the healing properties of the medical grade silicone creating hydration and smoothing wrinkles.
3. Increased bloodflow stimulates collagen.
The placement of the silicone pad on the skin brings blood flow to the surface, which can help to stimulate collagen, visibly softening wrinkles while you sleep.
Although Gabrielle launched the product a few years back, it has recently gained traction thanks to a celebrity skincare expert using it on Khloe Kardashians makeover show, Revenge Body. Gabrielle also features on Tuesday night's episode of Shark Tank where she seeks funding to further grow her blossoming business.
