With a theme like “Manus Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala was primed to be a style-critic’s hunting ground.
And, boy did those celebs not disappoint.
While some famous faces like Uma Thurman, Chloe Moretz and Anna Wintour played it safe, many took a very different approach.
Like Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry with their matching Tamagotchis:

Because nothing says 'the future' like an iconic '90s kids toy.
Or Kanye West and his piercing blue contacts:

Hello Kanye, welcome to our nightmares.
Here's our list of the strangest numbers from this year's Met Gala:
15. Meet Kylie Jenner 2.0. In which she has finally become a robot Barbie.
14. Kristen, punk-rock was 2013's theme. You're three years late, honey.

13. Looks like Rita Ora forgot careful placement was last year's go-to. (Right, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian?)

12. When in doubt, get the three-quarter white pant suit out.

11. So colourful. So out there. Actually I've changed my mind, I love this.

10. Taylor Swift has finally transitioned into her true form: Bad Blood persona, 'Catastrophe'.

9. Note to self: Take up quilting so you can make Alicia Vikander's next event dress.

8. "Oh wait, the theme wasn't 50 Shades of Grey??"

7. The one where you forget people don't know you're a robot and fail to cover up your robot arms before you leave the house.

6. We like to call this, "Going to the Met Gala in my active wear."

5. When you forget it's Met Gala day and so you quickly whip up a gown out of those (clean) trash bags you have under the sink.

4. Mules, latex tights and yellow crepe paper? This isn't 2016 anymore, Toto.

3. When you can't decide whether the '80s are in the future or not so you mix it up with your signature platforms.

2. Note: Bleached eyebrows are IN, people.

1. Because nothing says the future quite like Madonna with her tits out.
