A woman has had to be cut free from a car after falling from a balcony.

A woman who fell from the second floor of an apartment building has sparked another emergency at a hospital in western Sydney, after having to be cut from a car.

Police said the 26-year-old was waving goodbye to a friend when she plunged two floors down from the Lidcombe complex.

The friend drove the injured woman to Auburn Hospital, but staff were concerned about moving her from the car.

Firefighters cut open the left side of the vehicle so the victim could be carefully put onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

She was driven to Westmead Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition and is being assessed for spinal damage.

The two passenger doors on the side of the car were removed and it is believed the car belonged to the friend’s cousin.
