It’s almost impossible to live in the present at this time of year. The week between Christmas and new year is always absorbed by thoughts of the year that was and plans and hopes for the year ahead. It’s like Limbo Week.
Here’s another idea: think about how you were feeling last year at this time compared to now. Where were you at in your life?
2009: My last Christmas was a difficult one. I tried too hard to cut myself off from the world by staying totally offline and not consuming any media. Also, my computer broke. The dislocation was too abrupt and it triggered some nasty anxiety. Work wise, Mamamia was in a more embryonic stage with much less of a clear forward direction. We weren’t in an office yet. We didn’t have any ‘proper’ employees.
2010: Now, things are different. My kids are older – more complex probably but we’re out of the baby stage with the little one and getting more sleep. I am lucky enough to work with women I adore (and my husband who is also pretty rad) and while busy, I’m doing things I love. I’m excited and hopeful about next year. Whereas this time in 2009 I was fearful and uncertain.
How are you feeling and living this year compared to last Christmas?
