I’m in Melbourne for book promotion so I had room service before I went to a bookstore to meet some of the lovely people who frequent this site and bought my book. An impressive bunch they were. By the time I got back to my hotel, it was all about the Cherry Ripe in the mini-bar. Tasty.
Actually, before that, I had some trouble getting into my hotel room. My electronic key wouldn’t work. So I trekked back to the nearest phone and called the front desk and they said they’d send someone up.
I went back and kept trying and was getting majorly pissed. There was bad language used as I abused the door and my key under my breath. Or possibly just slightly over my breath.
Finally, a girl arrived to help me. She apologised profusely and asked if I was here for my book tour. I’m never recognised so I was immediately disarmed. “Oh, um, yes.” Her name was Lauren and she said she loved the book and loves this site. Follows me on Twitter. Lucky I didn’t get angry because that would have been uncool (I never believe in abusing people in the service industry and have no respect for anyone who does). So then we walk back to my room together and she uses her master key to open the door and THEN I REALISE I HAD BEEN PUTTING IT IN UPSIDE DOWN.
So it really is doubly fantastic that I wasn’t pissy with her because then not only could she have told the world I was a bitch but also an idiot.
Thank you Lauren.
Anyway. That was my exciting evening.
What did you do for dinner last night? Meal descriptions, anecdotes and even recipes welcome.
