Molly Jones wants you to know: "This is what depression really looks like."

It’s strange that the public face of depression is often a happy one – a person who has come through the difficult times and wants to help others do the same.

What we don’t get to see is what depression and other mental health issues look like when someone is truly suffering. We don’t see the tears, the helplessness, the vulnerability, and the pain. We don’t see the person who is ready to give up.

For Molly Jones, R U OK Day was the perfect time to change this.

She says while “normally I would post some positive quote on social media with the caption ‘speak up’ or ‘start the conversation’,” this year she wanted to do it differently. She wanted to share one of the lowest points of her depression and the lessons she learnt from it.

The result is a raw and candid video that will strike a chord with anyone who has suffered, or is currently suffering, from depression.

Thank you Molly for your honesty. Perhaps it will take us one step closer to lifting the veil on mental illness.
