These business leaders eat the same thing for breakfast every day. Here's what they have and why.

We make thousands of little decisions every single day – what to wear, what to eat, what to say in certain conversations, what time to go to bed and so much more. 

But as the day drags on, the worse our decision-making ability gets. 

It's for this reason why lots and lots of successful business execs eat the same thing for breakfast every day or keep a consistent morning routine. Because when you take one decision out of the equation per day, it can make quite a difference. 

For Richard Branson, he spends every morning the same: waking up at 5:30am after seven hours of sleep, eating porridge, fruit salad and a green juice.

Barack Obama famously said while he was President that he would have the same breakfast practically every day.

"I'm trying to pare down decisions," he said. "I don't want to make decisions about what I'm eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make."

As for Boost Juice founder Janine Allis, she said to Balance The Grind that her morning smoothie (containing kale, banana, blueberries, lemon, coconut water, chia seeds and other goodies) has been her go-to for years.

"It's hard to believe that we make around 200 food-related decisions every single day. So if I can somehow hack my morning routine by sticking with same nutritious and easy breakfast each day – it's a winner for me!"

Dr Amantha Imber is an organisational psychologist and founder of Inventium. And according to her, eating the same breakfast every day *actually* works.

"When we wake up in the morning, it's like we've got this fully charged decision-making battery. By the end of the day, we're running on empty! Doing things like eating the same thing for breakfast every day is a great way to minimise decisions," Dr Amantha said on Mamamia's 8 Minutes to Change Your (Work) Life podcast.

"It's those low-stakes activities and trying to create routines and patterns around those is key – so that we're not exerting decision-making energies."

So to provide some inspiration, Mamamia spoke to six incredible Aussie business leaders about what they eat for breakfast every morning, and why.

Alyce Tran - Co-founder of In The Roundhouse, and strategist for LTK.HQ.

"It's almost unorthodox the amount of bread I eat, but I love a soft-boiled egg on grainy toast, or I'll also often do vegemite and cheese on toast with a piccolo on the side. It seems to keep me going for a while!"

Rodrigo Pizarro - CEO at L'Oreal Australia & New Zealand.

"I wake up naturally every day at six in the morning. Around seven, I grab something light to eat like a cereal bar and get ready for my workout. Exercise is a must for me, it releases endorphins and serotonin and sets me up for a great day. I take a shower and do my beauty routine – most importantly hair gel, I couldn't live without it," Rodrigo tells Mamamia.

"Then I'm ready for breakfast. I pride myself in making the best breakfast in town. And it starts with a superfood, Açai. I mix it together with mixed berries, mango, bananas, oats, Greek yogurt and sometimes protein powder and add granola, strawberries and coconut – delicious, nutritious, and it sets me up for a great day every time."

Judy Sahay, Founder, Managing Director of Crowd Media Group, and a member of the Forbes Business Council.

"Six days a week I have the exact same breakfast routine – omelette with chilli, one slice of bread, a banana, some yoghurt and a smoothie. I do this to save time and effort as it's one less thing to think about. I also have five jumpers in the same colour and five pairs of pants also in the same colour – it saves me having to think about what I need to wear, as I want to focus on my work, clients and team."

Kayla Itsines, Co-founder of Sweat, Co-creator of the High Impact with Kayla.

"I'm always hungry when I wake up, so eating breakfast is a non-negotiable for me! A good breakfast and a Greek coffee really helps me to start my day on the right foot and fuels me for a busy workday ahead – whether that's planning a new program, meetings with the Sweat team or shooting a workout," Kayla tells Mamamia.

"One of my favourite breakfast meals is toast with taramasalata (a Greek dip), olive oil and a side of tomatoes, basil, kalamata olives, kabana and anchovies. It might not be your typical Aussie breakfast, but it's delicious! I know some people say they don't like to eat first thing but I really think it's about finding what's right for you so you can kick-start your day with something nutritious."

Mark Bouris AM, Entrepreneur, Founder Wizard Home Loans, Executive Chairman of Yellow Brick Road Home Loans, and host of The Mentor with Mark Bouris.

"Every day I wake up at four in the morning. I don't have breakfast as such, but this is the first thing I eat at home very early in the morning. Half a koulouri/koulourakia biscuit (a Greek biscuit I have daily), small coffee, 30 grams of oats, and cinnamon. I then head straight to the gym after having it."

Sue Karzis, CEO of State Schools' Relief, a Victorian not-for-profit organisation that supports the needs of financially disadvantaged government school students.

"I have an English muffin with honey and a cup of tea – it is comforting and consistent and my self-care ritual. Before beginning a day full of meetings, I like to relax with my cup of tea looking out at the garden and it prepares me for what is to come. There is something meditative about not having to think too much first thing in the morning!"
