Ultrasound technician guilty of groping female patients

By David Spicer

An ultrasound technician has been found guilty of groping the breasts, bottoms and genitals of five women at medical clinics in Sydney.

Samir Fahmy Ishak, 68, was convicted of nine counts of aggravated indecent assault with a District Court jury reaching a majority verdict of 11 to 1.

Each offence took place during medical procedures at clinics at Cronulla and North Sydney between 2011 and 2014.

The trial heard there was no clinical reason for the sonographer to touch the genitals of women on whom he was performing ultrasounds.

Ishak’s bail was continued to allow him to have further treatment for bowel cancer ahead of his sentencing hearing next year on February 23.

Each offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ jail.

The judge told the court a custodial sentence was inevitable.
