The Voice Australia just made history with its controversial winner.

After receiving more than one million votes, the winner of The Voice has been announced.

Controversial one-man orchestra sensation Sam Perry took home the win for Kelly Rowland’s team.

The runner-up, 16-year-old Victorian singer Bella Paige, was also on Team Kelly.

In the final moments of tonight’s grand final, Aydan Calfiore from Joe Jonas’ team and Sheldon Riley from Boy George’s team were both eliminated.

The 28-year-old Perth looping artist has been a game changer on The Voice since his first blind audition, where all four judges turned their chairs in under a minute for his unique performance of Prince’s When Doves Cry.

Sam’s blind audition sparked controversy when Boy George questioned his place on the show as a looping artist rather than a traditional singer.

Some fans of the show are not happy with Sam’s win for this very reason.

Others were stoked to see some someone different take the prize.

Sam Perry walked away from the grand final with a recording contract with Universal Music Australia and $100,000 in prize money.

The title of Sam’s winner’s single is Trust Yourself.
