The Bachelorette's Davey wasn't the "bro" everyone thought.

“I had two friends pass away on separate occasions. I left the house to go to the funerals. I chose to stay because I wanted to show I was serious but I didn’t want to tell her what was going on.”

After Davey Lloyd was dramatically booted off before the rose ceremony on The Bachelorette last night, every dedicated-viewer had an opinion on him.

He was immature. He was annoying. He was that bloke in your friendship group that always has a girlfriend.

At least, that’s what the general consensus was. But Davey, a 25-year-old carpenter from Sydney, has spoken about the pain he was hiding in the Bachelorette mansion while trying (and failing) to date Sam Frost.

“I had two friends pass away on separate occasions,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“I left the house to go to the funerals. I chose to stay because I wanted to show I was serious but I didn’t want to tell her what was going on. I didn’t want to make her feel guilty.”

One of his friends was 23-year-old Lachie Thomson, who fell off a cliff in June and died suddenly. Another was a friend from Davey’s hometown.

But when he was given a chance to open up to Sam Frost last night, he didn’t tell her any of this.

In case you missed it, he was asked by Sam to tell her what he likes about her and why he was on the show. He replied with:

“I’m not used to this pressure… I’m here for the right reasons. I promise you, I am.”

Which led to Sam kicking him out…

“I’ve dated people like you before and I know how it ends and it ends the same every time, even when you give people the benefit of the doubt,” she said.

BOOM. He’s out. Sam’s one step closer to finding a boyfriend. And the whole of Australia let rip about ‘Davey the bro’.

But while everyone had their doubts about the lad with the rings, what we’ve found out from Davey’s comments to The Daily Telegraph is this: He may not be the guy for Sam, but he is a fiercely loyal friend to his mates. And that’s a pretty great quality to have.

His Instagram feed is filled with photos of his family and his friends, who he affectionately calls his “brothers”, his “bros” and his “boys”. He shows support for his fellow Bachelorette contestants after they’ve been booted out, and is still close mates with Dave and Sasha, who are still in the competition.

Everyone knows a Davey, that’s true. But editing of a few quotes in an hour-long episode of reality TV does not show us every aspect of someone’s personality.
